Atkins qualified as "obese"

story (cnn.com)

Dr. Robert Atkins, whose popular diet stresses protein-rich meat and cheese over carbohydrates, weighed 258 pounds at his death and had a history of heart disease, a newspaper reported Tuesday.

The article also says he was 6-foot-tall. That is crazy. He always looked like 180 or less to me!

kinda Ironic, Isn't it?

Creater of a so-called "great" diet was obese at time of death-

He had cardiomyopathy, which caused his body to bloat up. It was not diet related.

did you read the whole story or just CNN's inflammatory and misleading title?

From the article:
Stuart Trager, chairman of the Atkins Physicians Council in New York, told the Journal that Atkins' heart disease stemmed from cardiomyopathy, a condition thought to result from a viral infection.

Atkins' weight was due to bloating associated with his condition, and he had been much slimmer during most of his life, Trager said

Damn people, learn how to read.
And why were his medical records made public?

CNN should be ashamed of that title.

Anybody who didn't read the article & posts in this thread should be ashamed of themselves.

Yes but I saw a couple of short interviews before his death and he seemed fine there. Did this weight happen instantly when he hit his head or something?

I'm not trying to flame it. Just to the contrary, I think thats an unbelievable number such is why I quoted "obese".

BTW Did anyone else see the mayor of NYC cuss him out on TV (taped by a hidden camera) and call him stuff? I saw it and it was pretty disgusting the way he said it.

How can you expect anything else from the media? There isn't an exciting story there so they try to fabricate one. Common stuff.

even if i dont have anything to say about any of it? :/

*i am shamed*

And the WORST part is this!

The medical examiner's report was given to the Journal by the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, a group that advocates vegetarianism. The medical examiner's office told the Journal that the report had been sent to the group in error.

Go to hell you tree hugging grass eaters. The only reason this was published was to promote your left wing psychotic agenda. :|

Atkins died fat?

hmm.
so i guess its not just the tree huggers at CNN 'misleading' the masses, huh?

it's an AP article. everyone has access to it, not just cnn.

the article wasnt being questioned
i was merely responding to the 'misleading title' that several people had brought up.

Well this article might do the Atkins diet plan some good. It could prevent the half-hearted dieters that go on the plan with only hearsay and misinformation and then they won't be spouting about their failure because they didn't follow the diet right.

Regardless of how fat he was/wasn't or why the weight was there, this is still totally pointless. He wrote a book about a diet that seems to work for a lot of people but may/may not have followed the diet himself. I know lots of physicians who will tell you not to smoke until they're blue in the face and then go light up after lunch. Does this somehow invalidate their advice?

I want all you morons to call me up at age 70 if you still weigh less than 200lbs.

I rarely see any 70 year olds 200 or more. The weight would probably do them in with heart disease or other stuff. How many fat old people do you see? I see lots of fat people up to around age 55 but not many after that.
