Atkins- Eating Out?

Do you generally just have to quit eating out when you get on Atkins? I can't think of a single place near my office that serves anything that is low on carbs. I suppose I could go to the Mongolian BBQ and just fill up my plate with meat and throw away the rice, but is there any other option, other than just bringing lunch everyday? I work in Arlington VA, there are dozens of places to eat nearby, but I don't think any of them sell low carb foods.

If you give the people at Hardees a couple bucks, they will give you a nice big cup of grease fat with floating lard chunks. Perfect for a quick Atkins lunch.

Alas, no Hardees in Arlington...

you dont know much about atkins, do ya bro? 😀
actually, i know quite a bit. salads are not verboten. sure, you probably can't eat them for the first month, but after that when you've started increasing your carbs you can easily do a salad. fibre doesn't count toward your carb intake anyway, so if you're just eating greens likely you're not eating any counted carbs.

There is a McDonalds and a Burger King... but neither really serve my type of food, even if I was going to try Atkins. Chipotle is great, but to make it low carb I would have to have a burrito with no rice, no beans, and no tortilla... seems kind of pointless to just eat a bowl of chicken.

some of the fast food hamburger places would surely wrap the burger in a piece of lettuce rather than a bun. lots of them do it in california and even advertise it.

Becareful BBQ sause contains sugar. I started the diet today. I had 2 eggs fried with olive oil and a slice of american cheese for breakfast. For lunch I had a hot dog minus the bun with just mustard. For dinner I had 2 atkins wraps at subway w/ mayo and I asked for tomatos. BTW I took the worst dump ever.

Subway eh? There is a Subway in Georgetown I could go to for lunch, so that is an idea. I'm not ready to start just yet- I have too many high carb foods in the house I need to get rid of, but I'm seriously considering it.

Eggs for breakfast was pretty much my plan, and I can make myself something at home with chicken, the only tough part is figuring out what I can for lunch when I'm working, without just bring lunchmeat every day. I can't eat hotdogs.

helllo, the grilled chicken salads at macdonalds have all of 6 net carbs. subway = pwned

Indeed, they're great, even on induction. Chick-Fil-A is even better (and there's one @ Ballston Common on Wilson Blvd.)

If you want meat, I hear the Malibu Grill in Falls Church (not too far from Arlington, at least not during rush hour(s) 🙂) is great. They bring skewers upon skewers of grilled meat to your table.

I never worry about counting carbohydrates (come on, say it the way it is supposed to be, just this once)
when I eat out at the 'Y.'

😛

I don't know what atkins book you read but mine says 3 cups of salad a day is required during induction.

Nothing wrong with salads on Atkins.
Mongolian Grill is an awesome lunch... Load up on spinach and all the rest of the veggies that aren't high in sugar/carbs.

Does it have to be fast food? You can find a low carb meal at any restaurant, once you know what you are looking for.

Yep, as long as you have an open mind, you'll find something to eat.

You are correct. So is ElFenix.
rahvin is throughly misinformed.

Salad is fine. Most on Atkins eat lots of salad.
Just choose your dressing wisely and skip the croutons.
Ranch, Caesar, and Italian are usually pretty low in carbs.

Be sure to stay far away from "Light" and "Reduced Fat" dressings... They load 'em up with sugar to improve the taste.

im glad im not the only one who thought of that when they read the topic title.

Pretty much any and hamburger or cheeseburger becomes "Atkins Friendly" once you ditch the bun. I know that my local Burger King offers "Whopper platters" without fries or the bun, but I don't know if they offer that in your area.
