Atkins dieters: Are you still doing it and how is it going?

I tried it for about 2 weeks (initial phase)

then I got some scrupples and decided to dump fad diets and start excercising at the gym... I'm back on the traditional pyramid, I run 2 miles a day, and I've lost 7 lbs. in 7 weeks.

Still doing it. OWL. Lost 30 pounds in four months. Almost at desired weight.

215--> 185
175-180 is the goal weight.

I couldn't do it, felt very tired and sluggish after just one day, and cheated that night with the tastiest bowl of corn pops I've ever had in my life.

I did it for about 1 month.

Started at 225lb, went down to 195 -- felt good and all. One night I decided to drink after not doing so 30 days, had a pint of rum which wouldn't normally be all that much for me but I got deadly ill the next day, couldn't keep anything down. I had to eat so I got some fast food.. pretty much been off the diet since then.

That was about a month ago, I only gained 2-3 pounds back and I have been eating fast food quite a bit lately. Most people say the weight comes right back, but didn't appear to in this case

I did it for exactly 3 months. I lost 30lbs in 3 month. I decided, however, that I'd rather be fat and eat everything I want.

Monday, I go back on Atkins for good.

stoped a year ago, went from 210 to 150 in less than 2 months, i had mental issues that lasted for about 10 months after that, i did not go to the doctor, probably should had, im coming out of it now, i think

my third time going thru the induction phase. doesn't say a lot for my will power i know. 🙁

anyway, i've lost 9 lbs in my first week. hope to lose 9 -11 lbs during my second week. i started at 231 and am currently at 222.

i hope to be at about 200 by the end of may.

keep in mind those that are trying it or are thinking about it that eating lots of complete protein (animal sources) usually comes with lots of fats and over long periods of time that fat will clog and harden your arteries... I have to agree that the atkins diet is a good quick fix, but in the long run it'll kill you (literally).

and you base this on what empirical research??

my dad who is almost a vegan and consumes almost NO animal fats whatsoever has a cholesterol problem and is on lipitor. wanna know why?? cause he eats candy all day long.

CARBS are converted to fats, not fats and proteins. what did you think that the body automatically sends everything you eat directly into your bloodstream??

Actually there are a lot of low carb foods not high in fat. Go to Trader Joes and see for yourself. Low carb cereal, pasta, dairy, etc.
I haven't eaten eggs for breakfast in a long time. Usually just low carb cereal with low carb dairy.

Quit spreading bullshit. Please show us a study that says that. My blood pressure is down, my bad cholesterol is down and the good up. My doctor was amazed. He said my results were "astonishing" and I am as healthy as most 18 year old. I'm 30. I am the first person he has had that actually had the bloodwork done before and after. I will go back in about six months to get an update.

yes, atkins is good for lowering bad LDL cholesterol and raising the good HDL levels. Quite frankly, if someone can get thru Atkins and lose weight, they should move to the SouthBeach Diet.

Why move to the SouthBeach diet?

sir, calm your horses and STFU. You represent only one in a crowd of millions, in statistics we call results like yours an outlier (if done purely without excercise and for over a year). And you didn't know that fat can clog your arteries? Which of the thousands of studies do you want me to point to?

The reason you've probably got good results is because you probably work out inaddition to dieting... IMO excercise is the focal point of any weight lose plan.

SB diet is less restrictive, not so high in saturated fats, more liberal in the use of carbs(fruits, pasta etc). Even Atkins group has changed their tune recently about eating large quantities of saturated fats.

You don't know what you're talking about. Proteins can be turned into fats too. Do you think extra calories in the form of protein magically disappear from the body or something???

I am not one in a million. You will find that 95%+ people that do Atkins properly have the same results. Again your an idiot. The book tells you to exercise (I ran 2+ miles a day and lifted before i started). The problem is too many people (like yourself) don't read the book. Most of the people who say they are on atkins aren't. Please show me where a person increases there fat intake by doing Atkins?

I did it for 2 years, lost my weight the first year, kept it off the 2nd year. But then I got bored with it so I'm doing other stuff now. Put a little back on but managed to get it back off via other means. Don't think I could have lost as much weight as I did without it though. I also think staying on it in maintenance mode for a year was good in that it got my body used to its new weight so the pounds didn't all come right back when I quit it.

Where in your original post did you clarify your statements with "if done without exercise"? Good way to toss it in at the end.

look, did you even read my post?

"keep in mind those that are trying it or are thinking about it that eating lots of complete protein (animal sources) usually comes with lots of fats and over long periods of time that fat will clog and harden your arteries... "

I'm taking about animal sources as a main source of protein... ie. eating a steak. Animal sources have fat buddy... do you need me to point to a source to prove it? Therefore if you are eating it then you are increasing your fat intake... People get rid of fat better by working out and convert the fats into good HDL cholesterol...

Get off the book and read something by Covert Bailey "fit or fat". Educate yourself... the man is one of the highest esteemed nutritionist of our time (not to mention he graduated from MIT and is a biochemist by trade)... HE USES COMMON SENSE... and uses science to prove his case.

Exercise + right foods (ie low in saturated fats) = healthy weight loss - not unlike what people have been saying all along
