ATItool "Find Max" feature

I got ATI tool and it has "Find Max Mem" and "Find Max Core". Are these things pretty accurate? About how long do they take to complete? Is it safe? Any different settings i should make before i start?

That's all the questions for now, thanks 😛

Hi. I did some preliminary reading on this last night, and it appears that some users let it run overnight, while some let it go for 24 hours to get an "accurate" max... that said, I ran mine for about 10 minutes and it didn't seem to be going any higher. 🙂

I also wonder about the safeness of tweaking with this app as well... someone help us! 😀

well it seems like it is finding the same max for memory that i did manually.

what it does is go up 4 or 5 mhz each iteration. once it gets an error it starts backing off a little bit each iteration. seems pretty safe.

it seems to play it safe for you. I find it's good for giving you a "safe" overclock. YOu can probably go higher than the "Find Max" values and not get artifacts, or very few artifacts.

it took my notebook's gpu from 220 to 300 before i got nervous and stopped the process.

i might do it over xmas break, but i need the notebook to write my exams on at the moment.

if it doesn't seem to be going any higher but isn't finding any artifacts i bet your video card is locked. you need to go into the properties of atitool and check the unlock box 🙂

thanks ElFenix. I will give that a try. I am somewhat worried though because of the stock cooling issue. The card is set @ 410/225 so I don't know how high I could go with just the regular cooling apparatus that is attached to the card. Looks pretty flimsy.

It seems to be pretty reliable, I used it last night on my 9800Pro without any problems. When using the 'Find Max Core/Mem' Feature it'll usually run till it hits artifacts then it'll just back off but keep testing. I have my VisionTek 9800 Pro to....hell I can't remember but it's in the sig, core is XT speeds but mem is about 100mhz higher.

So far it's been pretty stable, but for now I've got the stock ATi heatsink and fan, and will probably upgrade to the VGA Silencer very shortly.

what is odd is that yesterday i was able to get my ram up to about 277 and core to over 300... now the core seems to only get to 270 and the ram to 235

I suppose this doesn't matter, but it is worth asking about anyway.

Sandra2004 recognizes my core chip as an RV350, while AtiTool sees it as the RV360. Which app is right?

Stock settings were 410/225. I have had it up to 430/235 and everything works like a charm - not sure if this info helps or not.

Also, how long should I scan for artifacts before being satisfied? thanks.
