What if they are thinking about something like this?

Click

With some heatpipes and copper, I think it could work nicely :p

That actually may not be very quiet. It's hard to tell, but the fan looks kind of small, like a 60mm one.

What is the plastic hanging off the back for? Looks like a circuit card inserter tool, but its located on the wrong part of the card to be of any use.

I'm not sure if any of you realised yet, but that is the cooler from the 3Dlabs Realizm 100. Notice how it was linked off newegg, and how it says "3Dlabs Realizm 100 VPU" in the top left hand corner, and how there is a 3Dlabs logo on the cooler?

I was just going to say the same thing. The OP said "What if they are thinking about something like this?" In other words, it's musings.

will the flagship cards ever be single slot again? The last flag ship card with a single slot cooler was the geforce 7800 gtx 256mb.

Well, both ATI and nVidia are said to be going more towards power conscious designs but it is unlikely that the flagships card will be cool enough for single slot designs in the forseeable future. If I had to guess, I'd say the G90 and R700 (assuming they keep similar code names).

What if they try something like this:

Link

;)

LOL. Now that one would hopefully keep the card at ambient 24/7

Nitro, thought it would be a good laugh. It's always amusing to see what kind of inventions companies come up with.

That link is for a 3DLabs card not an ATI card. It's an AGP card at that. It has nothing to do with ATI at all.

It's an OK laugh I guess, but more than anything it's a serious let down. I thought you were actually posting spy-pics of ATI's next gen HSF (as one would expect from the thread title), which I was highly interested in. Instead I got a picture of AGP 3DLabs card, which is pretty much useless IMO.

...just change your thread title...
