Gee, if the trend continues, this card could be worth a thousand or more by the time we can actually buy one...[/sarcasm]

Sorry, but ATI has cried wolf a few too many times for my jaded ears....

Back when the x800 was announced the american dollar was $1.40 up here in canada, now its $1.20. And since ati is a canadian company, a weak american dollar is bad for business.

you certainly have a point here....i should probably move to canada..for *various* reasons 🙂

Blah, i was so hope'n to see a ATi next gen card other than a rehash this spring.

There is a PCI-express board just sitting behind me waiting for something. 🙁

so they announced it so what that means like 4-6 months to get it sent out then another like 2 months for abit or someone good to make a card. Then about another 2 months to get it to vendors

YES!!!!!!!!

But I think we all have to realize that if ATI delivers these cards to reviewers on December 1st and doesnt have them out by mid-January, it's a waste of a launch because you need to have those cards for a purpose before Spring's R500 launch. If they arrive to customers in February, the suspense and excitement surrounding April/May introduction of R500/NV50 will surely make most ppl want to wait; so they dont blow $550 on a videocard which will cost $250-300 3-4 months after the new generation comes out.

IF either company wants to do this right, the refresh cards have to be in consumers' hands before mid January at the latest. If ATI was truly smart, they'd make cards available close to Dec 10th or so, and build upon their performance lead by having the best high-end cards this holiday season.

It seems that every single X800 PCI-express card (Pro, regular, and XT) and disappeared in the last week. I think I saw one site that was asking $700.00. Rediculous. I'm finally building the fastest computer I can afford, and I can't even buy the fastest card on the market? (I am not paying $700.00 for supply-and-demand price gouging).

Any alternate suggestions?
