I can go either AGP or PCI-E...Any performance difference between these 2 cards???
Will be on a MSI Neo 2 Platinum (agp) or an MSI Neo4 Ultra (pci-e).
I don't know much about the 7800GT But I DO know the X800XT PE is a strong performer...Any thoughts are appreciated!

7800GT pci-e
x800xt pe was a very strong performer for its time, 7800GT will highly outpace it

dont stick urself to something going extinct

how much are you spending on the 7800? if you are buying right now from e-tailers it might be better to fork over a few extra dollars for a 7900 or it might even be same price

Instead of getting the 7800GT, why not get the 7900GT? Or the X1800XT?

The X800XTPE was a very fast card, I know with my GTO2 @ 560/600 16p I was getting 7200 in 05, which I've seen 7800GT's get... but it's probably not the card to get today.

I stick with my original recommendation - 7900GT or X1800XT, or you could even go better and get the X1900XT which is very good value for that huge performance you get.

7800GT > x800xt pe

latest vs. last generation hardware. the 7800gt should be considerably faster

The 7800GT actually isnt MUCH faster than the X850XT PE (which is only slightly faster than X800XT PE), it's faster, but not fast enough to warrant an upgrade if you already have an X800XT PE/X850XT PE.

Performance is one thing, but in heat/power/features/IQ the X850XT PE gets out paced.
It doesnt support HDR, S.M 3.0 and its IQ. Not to mention SLi has better support, TRAA/AAA is not offically supported on the X850XT PE and no video engine on the X850XT PE.

Right now a 7900GT is cheap as a 7800GT and the 7900GT is considerably faster.

I'd definately go with the 7800 GT, performance may be some what similar but PCI-E is the way to be.

Cookie Monster, I had no heat issues with my X800 GTO @ X850XTPE speeds.

The 7800gt is overall faster, although that varies by application. In some games like FEAR it's barely faster, in others like COD2 it's a lot faster. Actually, it may even be slower in Oblivion. But it makes no sence in buying another AGP card, since there are faster PCIe cards available for the same price, and you're just postponing the inevitable by staying on AGP. There are "officially" no new high end cards available for AGP.

Not heat issues. I meant, that the X850XT PE would be hotter than the 7800GT/7900GT.
