Exactly... If you don't want to read another post about the 2 hottest video cards available then stay out of the freaking Video forum or at least don't click on the freaking thread for crying out loud!

Neither, I'm not spending $500, let alone $400 on a video card. $300 is a possiblity though.

The 6800 GT is my favorite of the bunch, but I don't know that I'd pay even $400. I might go for the $300 12 pipeline Geforce 6800, which might have the best bang for the buck, especially if it's competing with ATi's 8 pipeline part.

Plus Nvidia's drivers are still better, which counts for a lot in my book.

These reviews are interesting, but kind of meaningless since drivers should mature drastically. Also Nvidia is achieving pretty similar scores to ATi while using full 32-bit precision, while ATi is still stuck on 24-bit, which could start making a difference.

the super sampling and multi-sampling by Nvidia does produce fantastic AA,
But with huge performance drop,
No one is gonna play with 22 fps for a card that worth 500 bucks

I'll stick to ATi ;)

If I were going to buy one of these (and I'm not, at least not anytime soon), it would definitely be the X800 XT. It seems to offer meaningfully better performance with AA/AF enabled, have marginally better image quality, it is smaller and runs cooler, and (this is a big deal to me) it doesn't require a 480-watt PSU and two molex connectors. Oh. and I could almost certainly install it effectively without a reformat (I am running a 9700 Pro now).

one thing i love about my video card, is that i have all settings maxed out.. (not overclocked), like i have the AA maxed, all the video settings maxed.. and it runs smooth and fast on any game i play..

I think the 6850 is meant to be competition for the XT.
Traditionally, the companies have positioned their PRO versus the ULTRA.

Yeah, but the Ultra is priced the same as the X800XT. Maybe someone (not me) would want to pay more for the factory-overclocked "Ultra Extreme," but its increased price puts it in another category, regardless of what has "traditionally" happened in the past.

Yep...I have the same card and it makes me question why I would even upgrade in the first place. The only thing that comes to mind is Far Cry. Once HL2 and DoomIII hit the shelves I'll probably want to upgrade; buying a $500 piece of hardware for a single game that I'll probably beat in 2 weeks is pointless IMO.

6800U for me. Until ATI gets a driver set with decent multi-monitor features, I'll be sticking with nV.

Err...I've been using multi-monitors with my Radeon 9800 Pro since it came out. Works fine. What problems are you referring to?

6800 for me :)
has a better feature set
is more future proof
has better performance in OGL and most situations except for DX9 with AF (Will probably be fixed in future driver release)
32 Bit floating point precision
vertex shaders 3.0
Direct X 9.0c
Better image quality
New architecture
Driver improvements will yield bigger gains in the future

Cons:
2 slot - I don't put anything next to vid card anyway. Some new mobos don't even have a PCI slot there anymore. Plus other manufacturers will come out with single slot solutions if you really need single slot. Not an issue for me.

2 plugs - It's already been proven by almost every reviewer that you can use the same molex plugs on the same wire. A molex splitter costs 1.59 at newegg. Not an issue for me.

Bigger PS - It only draws about 20 more watts than the X800XT and 9800XT (See Tom's review). Most people who can afford a new 6800 are not going to have a cheap on the PS anyway. Not an issue for me and most people.

LOL a fanboy's excuse for not knowing how to operate the Hydravision properly. Hydravision has no problems let alone ATi's drivers.

Agreed!

Besides, the X800XT clearly has better IQ than the 6800U. Hasn't IQ always been superior on ATI cards?

I haven't had a single headache from my 9700 pro, and by the time I upgrade again, the x800xt's should be down into the $200-250 range. and it performs better in the type of game I prefer, large mapped 3d environments (homeworld type games)

http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=27425&highlight=top+bottom

Even ATI fonbois picked the GeForce 6800 over the ATI, and one even exclaimed it was "6x on a Radeon" They were fooled....Oddly enough, I chose the ATI.

http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=27469&highlight=top+bottom

and again ATI fanbois choosing the GeForce 6800

Hydravision doesn't even support the 9800 series of cards. Here is a list of cards that it DOES support.

And if you've bothered to even use it, you'd know how inferior it is to nView. STFU, its more than appearant you have no experience with Hydravision, ATI MM setups, or nVidia MM setups.

Enoch

Its not that I had problems with ATI's multimonitor setup, its that its prehistoric when compared to nVidia's implementation.

You're talking about Far Cry right? Cause I think you'd be the only one who thinks the x800's IQ is "superior" to the 6800 across the board. Every review I've seen puts them neck and neck, with the exception of Far Cry which seems to be a driver/patch issue specific to that game and that game only.

I'm still not 100% sure but I think the X800 XT is the way to go. It's faster in newer games and when you crank up the IQ, and it also doesn't have as much power requirement.

Farcry is not PS2.0 intense. It's sad how these games can throw one or two 2.0 shaders in there and claim they are "so advance". Farcry doesn't even scratch the surface in terms of shader usage.

If price was of no concern, I would go with ATI for better performance in UT2k4, Splinter Cell, Halo and Far Cry with AA/AF enabled. Being able to beat Nvidia in these 4 games alone at high settings makes ATI a faster card in my eyes. Personally it doesnt matter to me if NVidia beats ATI by 1000 frames in less intensive Open GL games like Quake 3, RTCW, and Call of Duty (esp. when ati already gets 100FPS in those games at highest detail settings so who cares if you get 100 or 200 frames). On the other hand, for the 4 games mentioned above performance matters much more as they are demanding.

As for personal choice, X800Pro and 6800GT seem more appealing, but I wont make the call just yet until the price wars settle down.
