someone linked this earlier, and I really like the site:

http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards.php?card1=96&card2=314

Basically, (as far as I know), the x700 pro (esp the gddr3 versus ddr) is a pretty solid card for a good price. You'll be able to play most games, though the supernew top of the line games might not run as well. I was considering this or an x800 and the price difference did it for me.

These are faster than 9800pro? Not bad. Sorry to not have done my research, but does anyone know off the top of their head where this stands in comparison to a 6600gt? Thanks.

EDIT: I guess you bought it for newer video features in your HTPC.

This is a PCI-E card. I hope your changing your motherboard too or you're in for a rude surprise. Also, the X700 Pro usually loses to the 6600GT by just a hair in most games but does beat in some like Half Life 2. So to just say the 6600GT is 10% better is not accurate........

I am just saying that some things shouldn't be described in terms of % points better than others. New York is not 10% better than Chicago. I am not 10% better than John. Etc...

I got mine today.

The good: it came in a retail box and shrink-wrapped. The memory is 2ns Samsung (woohoo!).

The bad: it has the wimpiest heatsink and fan i've ever seen on a modern card. It's like a cheap 4th rate crystal orb rip off. It looks kind of like this one: http://www.geizhals.at/img/pix/106606.jpg

These cards don't run too hot. The tiny fan would be a perfect addition to the circular file and a passive cooler should work well with this card.

Not really. I bought a Sapphire x700 Pro 256MB with a slightly larger heatsink and that thing wouldn't overclock more than 5MHz on the core. The heatsink was VERY hot. I'm not getting the system for this card until Tuesday, but it will probably run even hotter.

The picture I linked above was a x600 (20-24W card). This x700 Pro uses almost 2x as much power.

BTW, guys, you can install an original AC VGA silencer with minimal work.........They are cheap and it makes a huge differance in both O/C'ing & noise. The factory heatsinks on these things can get pretty loud at 100% I've got a Sapphire X700Pro 128 meg running at 485/490 & an Gigabyte X700Pro 256 meg VIVO running 495/500 with VGA silencers on them.

Pity I live in Fla....tax makes them too much!

6600 = 700pro

6600gt = 800pro

your wrong.. a x800pro would stomp a 6600gt

the 256mb version of the x700pro is just under the 6600gt
