ATI x700 or Nvidia 6600 GT?

Yeah I'd get the 6600GT, but afaik there is no 256mb version of the 6600, but there is a 256mb version of the x700 pro. Games are just starting to take advantage of that extra ram, so this could be important in the future.
 
You mean X700 XT, Pro or just the plain X700? Anyway I'd take the GT over any of those.
256MB video RAM didn't show noticable advantage in games yet so it's useless on anything less than an X800/6800 series card IMO.
