ATI X700 128MB $69.99 No rebates or tax

I think you should put x16 in the title (or PCIE)
Otherwise, pretty good post IMHO (TD exception noted).

The GDDR3 card is (now?) $89.99, so it's $20 more.

The $69.99 price is a great value for a decent mid-range card with a 3-year warranty from ATI.

Be aware of what you are buying. There are three versions of X700s. One has DDR, another has DDR2 and the fastest has DDR3. The $69 one only has DDR. The DDR3 one for $20 more maybe worth it.

i have a 6600 that i've unlocked the extra pipe. will the ddr3 one be worth it over the 6600 if all i do is play cs source. thanks

Faster? Slightly. Worth $90 for incremental improvement? Probably not. Save a little more and get an X800 with 128DDR3 for around $130

I'm planning on getting a 2005fpw (when the next hot deal arrives). My rad 9700pro will be destroyed trying to play anything. Will this be sufficient or should I look into the x800/pro?

If you are adding in the $20 for ddr3, you might want to consider a 6600gt pci-express, they are down to $130 now. Much better performance than any of the x700 versions from what I've seen.

Look into the x800s. The x700 is basically a PCIe version of the 9800 Pro, and has the same 8 pipes, but with a 128 bit memory interface instead of the 256-bit you get with the 9800 Pros. The X700 Pro has clock speeds a bit higher than the 9800XT, but also has a 128-bit memory interface. This means that even though the X700s are going to be faster than your 9700 Pro, it is not going to be faster by an earth shattering margin since you are dealing with a higher clocked version of the same basic technology. You'll need at least 12 pipes (maybe even 16) to see a major performance boost over your current 9700 Pro.
