Hi, just put my x1900xt in. At first I installed the latest ati drivers and encountered no issues. next I tried opening ati tools and my system crashed. Reinstalled ati tool, booted, opened it again and system crashed, whatever.

Then I installed ccc because I wanted a way to check my temps and clocks. Can someone explain the following to me?

temp 53 degrees

"Requested processor status- 621
Current vpu clock- 500

Graphic memory status- requested 720
Current memory clock- 594"

Also when playing oblivion or fear the fan never goes up to %100 (I can tell because it's pretty loud at %100) and here's the kicker, at load my temps are around 72 which should be insane for a x1900xt.

Can someone explain those numbers to me? I have a feeling my card which should be working at 625 core is working at 500 core...

firstly let me tell you everything is NORMAL and fine. no need to worry about. just read on

i have a radeon x1900xt too, and i was pretty confused too abt all this when i first got my card.

firstly, your video card has a dynamic fan control which changes speed according to the video card temperature.

74 degreec C is normal for x1900xt as it tgenerates a lot of hea......some people have reported that it goes up to as high as 90s. and your 74 C is perfect. u dont have to worry about yur temps untill it goess to 90s. if even then u are worried about temps, get a aftermarket cooler for yur card like zalman v700 or accelero x2. both will take load temps down by atleast 10c.

2ndly, about the requested and current clocks. when your computer is running in 2d mode like when you are on the desktop, your video card switches to 500/594 preocessor/mem speed. but when you play a 3d game or a 3d application, it switches to 621/1440 (720x2) processsor/ memory speed.

your video card does this to increase life of video card and to generate less heat. it does not affect your performance whatsoever. it is recommended that you let the 2d speeds remain that way and only change the requestd speeds if you want to over clock for 3d purposes'

unfortunately i cannot understand why ati tool would not run properly on your system. have you usesd the ati tools 0.24 or the 0.25 beta version.

Version 0.25 works better with x1900 series cards, but if that does not work, try version 0.24.

good luck
