I was selected to be a beta-tester for BF2142. I'm not sure how but since installing the game I've had funking desktop issues. I use dual monitors and everytime I boot-up my system now, my previous desktop setting do not stick. My icons are everywhere and my primary monitor gets switched to my secondary monitor. My primary monitor also drops from 1920x1200 to 1600x1200(which my secondary monitor is set at).

I've uninstalled and reinstalled the 6.8 drivers(no issues prior to the beta 2142 install) to no avail. I can't reinstall windows without invalidating the beta key for 2142.

The only thing I've discovered is when looking at the video card properties is information under the Adapter Tab. For my primary adapter, it lists under Adapter String - Radeon X1900 Series Secondary. I wonder if this is the cause of my problems, as it shouldn't be Secondary.

Can someone with a X1900 series card provide me what they have listed under Adapter String for their primary adapter? You can find this by:

1. Right mouse click on Windows Desktop
2. Left mouse click on Settings
3. Left mouse click on Settings Tab
4. Left mouse click on Advanced Tab
5. Left mouse click on Adapter

Any help/thoughts are appreciated. Thx

I'm having a similar issue, however I have a little bit different setup. I suspect it is perhaps a driver issue.

I notice with my X1800 CF rig using Cat 6.8 that my primary (22" CRT) and my secondary (analog 17" LCD) get swapped upon reboot...everytime, unless I physically disconnect my LCD prior to Windows booting up (or have Crossfire enabled of course)

It's a PITA that I hadn't noticed before, note that I have been very busy this summer and haven't given the last couple betas much testing, so it could be an issue with Cat 6.7 as well.

my adaptor string looks proper " Radeon X1800 series Crossfire Edition"

What happens if you swap the connectors? I can't using CF becuase the primary connects to the "dongle"...maybe I'll test it for plain dual mode and swap them myself and see if its the same issue.

edit: It'll be later since I'll have to pull my CF edition card to perform that type of test.

rbV5 - I have the same problem with my primary and secondary getting swapped at reboot. I also have tried swapping connectors but with no results. More than likely b/c the drivers/windows remembers which monitor is assigned to which adapter. I'm going to try to disable/uninstall the display adapters and see what happens.

I've reinstalled the drivers and also used DCpro in safe-mode with the same results.

I hadn't been using multi-displays with my Crossfire rig this summer, but I recently got back to using my main PC alot more again and installed some tuners and hooked up the LCD for browsing to get it back to full blown Entertainment/Media Center/graphics and audio workstation mode and noticed the issue right away.

Best workaround I could come up wth short of rolling back to a previous set was to keep the LCD unplugged untill I get to the Windows log-in, which is simple with my setup but nott so elegant:)

This has been a problem since BF1942.

I never found a cure for it, I notice that BF2 does it as well.

EA has a lot to answer for in this respect.

Okay, I finally figure out how to fix it. I'm not sure if it'll fix things for you b/c you're using crossfire.

1. Disable Secondary Adapter thru Device Manager
2. Uninstall Primary Adapter
3. Shutdown System
4. Physically disconnect 2nd Monitor
5. Reboot
6. Reinstall 6.8 ATI Drivers (didn't need to uninstall)
7. Reboot
8. Enable Secondary Adapter
7. Shutdown
8. Reconnect 2nd Monitor
9. Reboot
10. Reinstall Drivers for 2nd Monitor

What a pain in the arse but now everything works right. Note - the Adapter String for the primary adapter now reads - Radeon X1900 Series.

Hope it works for you also.

Perhaps, but I have none of those games installed and have the same issue with dual displays and Catalyst 6.8 where I had no such issue prior.

Are you using x1xxx card and dual displays with Catalyst 6.8?

When I originally installed I had no secondary monitor connected. I had done some testing which included some reboots and later on decided to connect the secondary monitor. I'll go through the routine and see if I covered all the bases, but I'm affraid I tried every different combo....we'll see :)

Thanks!

I went ahead and connected my CRT RPTV to the secondary X1800 XT and it appears that I can reboot without messing up my displays now. If I disconnect the 3rd display it exhibits the same issue again, but connecting it back up "fixes" it. Looks like a driver bug;)
