ATI X1800XL

I still have an ATI X1800XL in my other computer.

Does anyone know what would be the equivalent Nvidia or ATI card ?

3*** / 4*** series for ATI and 8*** / 9*** series for Nvidia.

At a guess, it has slightly lower performance (and far fewer features), while being bigger and hotter than the mid-range from two generations later (ATI 3*** = 3650, NV 8*** = 8600GT). Tom's Hardware has GPU charts for these sort of comparisons.

Not sure why you'd want an "equivalent" card when there are far better/value new mid-range cards, unless this is for RMA purposes.

It's going to be most equivalent to, but slower than, the cards already mentioned: The HD2600 series, HD3600 series, HD4550, 8600 series, and 9500 series.

Well, its not that I would want an equivalent card to the X1800XL, I was just wanting to know what was equal to it so I could get something faster than it :thumbsup: Right now it is in my kids computer and I would like to get them more performance.

About what would the X1800XL be worth nowadays ?

That statement is not a price check. If it came out that way, I apologize mods. It was meant to see if it was worth about the same as a HD4670 would be. Because first of all, the X1800XL isn't even for sale.

Because I came to the conclusion, That I am going to start collecting ALOT of PCI-Express GPU's to benchmark them all, and make a chart to show how far we have came in a few years.

But I was more or less referring to all the cards benchmarked on the same computer with a Q9550. Should be quite interesting. And if nothing else, I could cover one of my walls in graphics cards.

LOL. I only have one shelf-full of cards gathering dust (from Voodoo3 through to 2900Pro), as my gaming system is happy with its current 9800GX2.

The HD4670 would spank the X1800XL. It wouldn't even be a contest. Now the HD4650 would be a better comparison, but it would still beat the X1800XL. An HD2600XT would probably be an even better comparison, and since I've seen the HD2600XT as low as $30, I think that will give you an idea of the X1800XL's worth

I wish those charts would include really old games as well. I'm always curious as to how newer budget cards perform in old ass games.

Makes me kind of sad to think of these high end cards from the past being beaten by <$30 cards.

All of these cheap prices on these cards is making me wonder why I spent so much money in the past for some parts.

Wasn't the X1800XL more a mid-range card than a high-end card? I remember various AT benchmarks showing it and the 7600GT trading blows with one another (with the X1800XL coming out on top by a small margin), but right now I just can't remember which card actually came out first.

The third card may have been some sort of GF6800 perhaps? The x1800XL was based on a high-end GPU, with 256-bit memory (usually a "high-end" indicator at the time), but the GPU was a cut-down version of the true high-end x1800XT. Vanilla GF6800 was in a similar situation, but performed barely any better than the mid-range 6600GT, so the release of the mid-range 7600GT would've provided a good comparison.

You're thinking of the X1800GTO, which was released to provide true competition to the 7600GT and was just a cut down R520 (12PP yet retained 256-bit interface). The X1800XL was released back in late '05 along with the XT and it was priced ~$300-400 to compete with the 7800GT while the XT competed with the 7800GTX 256MB.

The X1800GTO was there just because the X1600 series was so pathetic that it could barely compete with the 6xxx series midrange parts, much less the 7600 series.

It is hard to compare exactly but I would say that a X1800XL would provide around the same performance as the HD 4550, a bit higher or lower depending on the game/settings. You can get a HD 4550 easily for $50.
