The 7800gt CO approaches GTX stock speeds. Plus, the GT CO can still o/c, but it's already being pushed. Don't count on getting an XL and getting high overclocks. That is a bad way to buy, because you just don't know what you'll get. Compounding this fact is that there are very few official reviews showing overclocking. The info you will find is mostly from users and select websites. You have to assume you can get it that high. As for AF, turning on HQ AF causes a pretty big hit, around 10fps or so. On top of that, you are more then likely then not to truly notice it in fast action games. It IS good for slower paced games I would say. Plus, AoE 3 runs like utter crud on ATi cards, so if you plan on playing that, the nVidia cards are much better. The one advantage to the x1800 is transcoding, but that isn't out yet. You may or may not use that. DVD decoding quality is better on nVidia for now, according to HQV benchmarks and some reviews (FS and AT did them). The XL is still young, but you have no idea if it will get better, thats a fallacy among enthusiasts that drivers will always wring out better performence due to prescedence (sp?). nVidia drivers are still bringing about a frame or two increase in the newer drivers for new games, so that goes both ways. In the end, it is still a moot point. Don't count on getting an XL high, but count on performence out of the box as a starting point. In that case, nVidia is pretty far ahead (in the case of the GT CO, which is the fastest GT card).
