I am trying to do the softmod for the 9500, but am having some serious issues with the ATI drivers. I keep getting this message part way through the install, "Error extracting support files: The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect." I am coming from nvidia if that makes any difference. I tried using regclean to get all the nvidia and ati stuff off my computer and then reinstalled, but to no avail. Is there anything I can do without formating my drive?

Theres probably something that you can do to completly rid your system on nVidia, but it`d take so long and be so complex, that its not worth it.
Try searching for a program to remove all driver traces. Then install the drivers.
Best thing to do is re-format. Theres no getting away from the fact.

Also, depending on what PCB your 9500 is built on, you might not be able to get the 9700 mod working. Search for a detailed article on how to do the mod.

The odd thing is that I have 2 9500 cards, and the first one installed without a hitch. Then I did the softmod and got checkerboarding, so I swapped cards and the system hung on the next boot. Ever since then, I get that error when I try to install any ATI drivers. That says, to me, that there must be some way to fix the problem without having to re-format since the driver install and softmod both worked for the one card yesterday afternoon. I have tried switching cards, uninstalling and reinstalling drivers in every way imagineable, using regclean, bleh.

Can anyone tell me what exactly this error means, cause that would be the place to start.

deleateing the "enum" section of the reg will make windows redetect and reinstall all your hardware, that might be worth a shot.
