Re: Bimmerchick...she's taking a rest 🙂 I'll put her back in my sig soon.

My take is, they're giving the customer something for nothing. Most of these nonpro cards are capable of pro level performance. It's stupid to sell them like that. People were making $150 9500s into $300 9700 Pros! Giving too much away

So, you think they would be smarter to toss away the failed cores? Don't you think that would make the Pro cards considerably more expensive? How do you feel about the ti4200? the 5900NU? How about the fanless 9600? Do you think the highend cards bring in the profits or the customers?

I did, and I read the graphs, and ATI won a lot of them. Do I need to specify and count ?? about half I said. Also, I would like to read Anand's review in English before really deciding.

im sorry (actually im not) but..................

I will always favor Nvidia because of 2/4 friends that bought ATi whished they would have bought Nvidia for gaming. Nvidia was just f***ed over by MS because of their Cg language and will correct the problem and blow ATi away once again. ATi might have tricks up their sleaves but ATi has never risked before on anything new so, they have lost credibility in my book and Nvidia (the risk takers) will pull ahead once again.

Did you notice the 9700pro they released last year? How about the AIW series? Intel chipsets? Digital STB's?

Edit: If you only play OpenGL games, nVidia is the way to go. Otherwise, ATi is still in the driver's seat. ATi needs to explain why nVidia's OGL performance is so much better.

Because its far superior hardware. nVidias DirectX problems lie in doing sharders in emulation because the NV3X chip was designed to run on 16 and 32 bit precision shaders. Not 24bit which is DX9s final spec. ATi was on MS's forum for DX9 the entire time, and hence scored a big win with the R3XX design being based around 24bit shaders.

I didnt say that, it was clearly nVidias fault for leaving the forum. I was explaining the Stellar OGL performance while its lacking in DX9.

Yes, I must say that I am more than happy with my AiW RADEON 9700 Pro. It doesn't overclock nearly as well as my last card: a trusty, rusty MSI 128MB GeForce4-Ti4400 AGP 4x and Refresh Force won't work with my 9700 Pro. Big deal. The card rocks and it'll be the 1st ever card that I keep more than a year, know what I'm sayin'?🙂

If there is no airflow other than convection then the common heatsinks in the PC can be called passive. However, there is almost always at least one fan drawing air through the case.

As for the heatpipe, even without any airflow, the process of thermal transfer by phase change is an active one.

Is this correct? I always thought that only when external energy is ultilised to cool something is it called "active" cooling. As the phase change is driven by the heat of the chip itself, I do not think a heatpipe can be called "Active".

Anyway, back on topic. WE NEED REVIEWS! 😀

Nvidia was on the Dx8 forum right? (They DID design the xbox gfx chip). So, how come their newest parts run Dx8 titles slower than ATi parts????

Who can actually believe this is gonna come out at $299?
That would be very stupid because it costs more than a geforcefx 5900 and it's slower.... and it's marketed as a mid range card...

geforcefx 5900 costs $235... I have no doubts that geforcefx 5700 could cost $200...

because the difference between 200fps and 300fps isnt significant to the eyes 😉

ah... so Nvidia engineers for the eye huh? Not performance? THey shjould take that up as a marketing slogan!

I know... I know... as long as it is above ~60fps consistently, why should anyone care?

I might actually go in for the 5700fx if it outperforms ATi by a small margin though.

Its supposed to be a totally revamped architecture. We should all just wait and see... but I CAN'T WAIT!🙁

The 5900 had a MSRP of $400(VIVO) last I was aware, its street price is $219(non VIVO, closer to $300 for the VIVO). If the MSRP of the 5700 is $200 then the street price will likely end up a decent amount lower then that.

You don't need Refresh Force. Go to Display Properties, Settings, Advanced, Displays, Monitor and set Refresh Rate Override to Same as desktop.

Yes, ATI would be better off trashing chips that didn't make the cut, rather than using it to produce a NEARLY as good product for way less money. The reason? The customer needs a video card.... don't give them a cheap alternative for the same performance.
