Agreed.

Or the $250 Sapphire non-pros flashed to past default pro speeds! 😛Originally posted by: PaperclipGod
LOL
If NV36 is $300, it better be able to beat the $300 Sapphire 9800 Pro's. And fat chance of that happening. 😀
The NDA on NV38 and NV36 will be lifted today.

Yeah, people who bought a 9700P are getting a lot of mileage from them. I put a ZM80A-HP passive heatpipe cooler on mine. I'll keep it for awhile longer until the next big thing.Originally posted by: Ferocious
I think my 1 year old 9700PRO will last me all the way until my next system. A PCI Express system.
What an awesome card. 🙂

Thanks for the news Adul. I can't wait to see a real review of a 5700U card (along with pricing info).

heatpipes are active cooling
I agree no moving parts = passive.Originally posted by: oldfart

I thought no fan = passive cooling? What makes heatpipe active?
So the flow of thermal energy through a normal heat sink makes it an active cooler? What's the difference is the material that is performing the heat exchange is liquid at the temperature it operates at? If I somehow (hypothetically) made a mercury heatsink would that make it anymore active then an alluminum heatsink?Convective flow of the liquid in the heatpipe.

It's passive if it takes no power and makes no noise.
Probably when they have perfect yields.......seems pretty wise to me to use the cores that don't pass hand speed binning for their pro cards for the NP lines. It also serves to enlarge the customer base by offering lessor, yet still potent cards at a lower price point. Maybe you have a different take?I kinda wonder when ATI will wisen up and stop making Non-Pro products....

Edit: If you only play OpenGL games, nVidia is the way to go. Otherwise, ATi is still in the driver's seat. ATi needs to explain why nVidia's OGL performance is so much better.
