$200 is cheap? There are quite a few universal transcoders you can purchase for less than that that probably work a lot better as well. I think he was looking for something a bit closer to the $25 or so it costs for the ATi adapter. To that end, I don't think there is anything universal in that price range.

Your cheapest route may be to just get a new videocard.

Good point. I know that they do make USB video cards, I wonder if they make a USB Video card with component outputs? That would be great if he has a laptop.

I was thinking that too but I really don't know how well they work.

I was thinking that too but I really don't know how well they work.

They work, but not as well as a dedicated video card. It gets the job done but with out 3D. I think it was tomshardware.com or extremetech.com that did a review on one of these, they make a nice last resort.
