ATI Upgrade

Would any of you know how much of a preformance boost you would get from haveing a X9800XT going to a X850XPE? Thanks in Advace!!

About 2-3x as fast. I just tried downclocking my card yesterday to see how I could get it to 9800xt levels, and I had to go down to 205mhz on the core to get the equivalent 3dmark05 score. Since the xt pe runs at 540mhz stock, it would be a huge upgrade.

this is getting to be a popular question . . . i think it's been asked three times this week

anyway, i DID upgrade my 9800xt to a x850xt@PE speeds . . . performance roughly doubled [from 3000 to 6500 3DMark05] . . . if you LIVE near a Microcenter they are still $200 after $50MIR. . . .

or you can wait for a probably faster card in AGP . . . 7800GS is to be announced early next month. . . . from nVidia

what's the rest of your rig like?

general rule of thumb would be that each generation doubles the performance of the last one. so a x800xt would be double the performance of a 9800xt, and the x850xt pe is a bit faster then that so it should be like 2.5 times faster...

A X850XTPE would be a huge, and IMO opinion, necessary upgrade for you. Better yet, a 7800GS.

Your memory likely won't be noticeable for gaming, except in a couple games Battlefield.
