ATI TV Wonder: I can't figure how how to get sound

I'm using the ATI Multimedia Center 7.1, and the only place for sound settings I can find is if you run the configuration wizard. But none of those options cause any sound to come out of my speakers. Anyone know what I should be doing?

I'm pretty sure tuner cards require an audio loopback cable attached to the sound card. Do you have it attached?

From what I gather, there are some issues using ATI software with the TV Wonder. (Especially with WinXP) You could look at your sound settings in the Windows Control Panel to make sure nothing needed is checked as muted.

I have the PCI TV Wonder, and think it is a damn good card with great picture quality. (Contrary to other opinions) I run full screen with a 21" monitor. It is one of a handfull of TV cards that offer stereo TV sound.

Anyway, I have not run the ATI software or drivers for quite some time. I suggest that you DL This Driver, and then use DScaler for the player. They work great for me. 🙂

EDIT: Yomicron is right about needing the cable going from the TV Wonder to your sound card.....

Have you been able to get stereo sound with Dscaler and that set of drivers?

I'm still using the original ATI driver (from their website) for Windows XP and using 3.10 for Dscaler. What version do you use?

Yes, I get stereo sound. I use DScaler Version 4.0.0 (Build 4356) The btwdmdrvinstaller is the latest 5.3.5.

If all the other sound on your computer works, you just need the little 6" cable to hook up from your TV card to your soundcard or onboard "line-in" jack.
it's usually blue as far as i can remember. that's all you gotta do, and select line in in the setup of MMC.

easy as pie. 😀

Good lord thats ghetto, they couldn't have done somthing across the PCI bus?

Thanks guys, looks like a trip to radio shack is in order.

You didn't get the necessary cables with your TV Wonder?

One thing to note about the ATI TV software is that you can have different volume/muting settings for when you're running the TV program and when you're not. If you start the TV software, change your sound settings, then close your TV it will change the settings back to the way they previously were.

It's kind of cool. You could have your Line-In automatically muted anytime you turn your "TV" off. It comes in handy for me since I use a VCR instead of the built-in tuner...I don't have to hear the VCR when it turns on to record. 🙂

I don't know if other TV-tuner cards have software that do the same thing. I am looking for an additional TV card though...

Some of the suggestions here may not work. There are some issues with ATI TV Tuners and certain sound cards, notably the Audigy. There are many threads dedicated to this topic on the Rage3d.com messageboards. I recommend you check that board out.

i hooked the cable that came w/ the TV Wonder from the Sound Out [TVWONDER] to Line In [SBLIVE!] and made sure that the Line In was enabled and un muted.
