So, I'm using ATi tray tools to overclock my card and setup my fan profiles. I've used Riva Tuner before, but for some reason it started to fail on me.

For a month or so, ATi tray tools worked like a charm, but now it keeps reseting my fan profiles and also overclocks my video memory with 200mhz, every time I boot to windows. What the hell? I've uninstalled it and reinstalled it, made other profiles, but to no avail. It's very annoying to have to manually set the fan profiles and clocks at every boot. Is there any ATi tray tools guru that can help me out here?

And you have a problem with this why, exactly? :D

You definitely have some of the more interesting problems, don't you, error? CPU that wouldn't stay overclocked, GPU that overclocks itself, etc. Always fun...

Yeah, the most interesting stuff happens to me. :p I have Area 51 in my room.

But it's not the gpu that overclocks itself, it's the video memory. It's very annoying, because I'm very lazy to redo all that stuff at reboot. Somehow I have the feeling that you think I'm imagining things!?

Well you must have a profile for ATT to downclock your memory. Goto overclocking settings and select the profile from the list that downclocks your memory. Then just uncheck "the load selected profile at startup" and hit save.

IMO though 200Mhz for idle and 2D works great. Really all you need to do from there is setup some game profiles for 3D overclocking and your done.

Thanks man. I just reinstalled it again. Let's hope that this time works as it should.

Did you update any drivers at some point ?

Also (bit off topic) ... but does anyone use ATI tray tools with Vista 64?

Works fine in windows 7 64 bit beta, you just have to do a f8 boot with an advanced options checked to allow non-signed or something like that drivers to run.

Actually all you need to do is run windows 7 64bit or Vista 64bit in test mode and then just patch the watermark.

Here's the tool and the watermark removal patch

Are there any advantages/disadvantages to using ATT vs CCC vs rivatuner? I just built a new system with a HIS Radeon 4870 512 running Catalyst 8.12. Also, feel free to tell me I'm off base here, but rivatuner showed me that unless I enabled Overdrive in CCC the best the card woud do was 200 MHz core and 500 MHz memory. I had to turn on Overdrive and adjust the settings to match my card's specs - 750 MHz core and 900 MHz memory. I'm currently running a profile (for games) at 780 core and 1030 mem with the fan set at 35%. Running flat out, the card temp stays around 65 - 68C.
