ATI to user: "What better performance?"

Greetings,

A week ago I bought a Rage Fury Pro VIVO 32 RAM; some might remember I asked a few questions about a video in/out card. Some will also remember I was disappointed with it, because, among other things, the quality of the recorded video is very bad, the DVD player interface (NOT the image quality!) lacks many features, and also, much to my surprise, there was no difference in quality between the new card and my old Rage Pro (4 RAM).

I expressed all these points in a thread posted here, and sent an e-mail to ATI as well.

The answer I received from them was a surprise. It seems I upset someone with my letter. The following fragment in the letter puzzles me:

"With regards to not seeing any performance difference between this card and your older Rage Pro.

You did not mention if you were experiencing any problems with the game(s)using the Rage Fury Pro. If the game is running smooth and you are not having any problems with it than I do not understand what better performance you would like to see."

Then, things like texture, lighting and others don't actually matter? Ouch! so what's the conclusion here? That there's shouldn't be, actually, a difference between cards?

I don't know if I should even answer them now - I have no clue.

The Rage chipset was a very dissappointing for ATi, and I guess they are trying their best to forget that era and wipe clean the slate which has hampered them.

Speaking of which...
I too own this card. Does anyone know how to record a >2GB video file using their software? I'd like to convert some of my Digital8 video to avi or MPEG2 but using 320x200x30 fps yields only 20mins or so recording time.

phantasm

there's a member here on the forums (I believe it's Workin', so do a search), who claims he has tweaked the Fury Pro to record in MPEG2 quality or something like that...

I remember he said that the CD drivers shouldn't even be touched - he used internet drivers.

oh, well..

Still, ATI people should know their stuff in different cards, shouldn't they...

Have a bitch to them.
If it's their board they have an obligation to do all they can to support their board... words like these from a dumbass "sales associate" certainly do not help the industry.
