Another X800 card! Looks like the 6600GT has some serious competition. Heck, if you catch good buys you can buy a X800Pro at around the same price, which would perform better. Specs seem to be a neutered X800XL. Things must be getting rough for ATI!

EDIT Benchmarks found HERE. Seems impressive against a 6600GT. A little late to the party though.

From what I understand, this is just a way to make some money off r423 and r480 chips that don't make the cut for current product specs. Benchmarks look nice so with a reasonable price the cards should be a win-win situation for everyone.

Its almost $100 more then a 6600GT .. LOL what a pontless card heck the 6600GT is almost at the end of its life soon to be replaced .... ATI are really milking these X800's for everything they can ... good on them doesnt hurt anyone....

But its a little crazy How many X800 X850 cards models are there now .. lol 13 or something i i hope they dont bring out this many with the X900 cards

Those crazy Canadians. ^_^ hehe I wonder if Nvidia will bring out a 7600GT ... hmmm 128bit memory bus with a 16 pipeline 700Mhz 90nu core cheap and nasty

I'd consider it if it had Shader model 3...
If a 7800 SLI setup struggles with nVidia's special features what chance does a single 6600GT have?

Great another one of these arguements. What a ridiculous statement. That's like if I said, "I'd consider a 6600GT if I wanted to play my games at 640x480 all day!"

What am I missing? The article says it should cost $150.00. Do you have another conflicting report?

Right now I would not bother with any 6600GT / X800GT class of cards if I were a gammer. Get at least a 6800NU or X800 (12pipe 256bit vers of either)

ATI needs to stop releasing new videocard models. Nvidia had it right with only 3 6800 model cards.

There's plenty of much competition in the $150 market. nvidia already has 2 cards there, with the 6600GT and the 6800, while ATI doesn't have anything there other than a lacklustre X700. The X800GT is an expected move from them to cover the mid-range market. If it's priced at $150 things should get interesting, though the 6800 would probably still be better.

Really nice, but too late. IF it was released @ the same time as the 6600 GT, the results might be a lil different.

I already thought there was a solution to this, seeing as how there should have always been an X800 vanilla option, one with 8 pipes (the X800Pro with 12 and XT with 16) and then there was the X800 (.11u with 12 pipes, where the XL has 16 pipes). I guess ATI found out teh X800 with 12 pipes would have been too good of a deal, clearly owning the 6600GT.

Ok, so what's the order of ATI cards in terms of performance from the X850XTPE all the way down to the lowest X800 card? I usually can keep up, but this generation with ATI, I'm lost.

Somthing like:

X800GT - 8 pipes 475MHz/980MHz (256 Meg, there appears to be some confusion here)
X800 (Vanilla) 12 pipes 400/700 (256 Meg)
X800 Pro 12 pipes 475/900
X850 Pro 12 pipes 520/1.08
X800XL (The Pros and the XL's are all right on top of each other as far as price/performance - ATI walked all over themselves here) 16 pipes 400/980
X800XT 16 pipes 500/1.08
X800XT PE/X850XT (Basically the same card) 16 pipes 520/1.12&1.08, respectively
X850XT PE 16 pipes 540/1.18

Got to love how the GT is the slowest of the bunch! Makes a ton of sense

Currently working on filling out the specs right now. Personally, since the X800GT uses the same .11 micron process as the X800 and X800XL, I am surprised it too is not clocked at 400 mhz. I would guess there wouldn't be much headroom left!

If you see a bad number up there, let me know and I will fix it!

No surprise there, NV came out with the 5900XT as well, which was slower than the vanilla 5900. What I don't like is that they have an 8-pipe and a 16-pipe card, both carrying the "X800" moniker, just with different suffixes. I'm not taking sides here, as nVidia is guilty of this also, I just think that this is intentionally misleading to consumers. Personally, I feel that the base name of the card, "X800" in this case should relect the core and the number of pipes, while the suffixes represent clockspeed and features. Also, the vanilla version should always be the slowest. Of course, this will never happen because these companies rely on people confusing the X800GT with the 6800GT, which they have heard is the "second best" card next to the Ultra version.

My 6600GT scores better then that in 3DMark01 and 03 and almost that in 05. No need to upgrade for me!
