Besides that, how many GT's are slower than the vanilla version? The 6800 is obvious here, but how about my Mustang? It woud suck my GT were slower than a normal mustang, or how about Grand Prix/Grand Ams? Watch me post a vanilla X800 in the hot deals section and someone will try and say the GT is faster and a better buy, just you wait!

No wonder ATi has hundreds of millions of dollars worth of unsold inventory, they keep releasing new cards with minor changes! They have to keep ALL of the models in stock just in case there's unexpected demand for any one of them, and they wind up having too many of each!
I just don't see why people are saying impressive numbers? In that review you have to compare the 128mb x800 gt to the 6600 gt and their performance is very close. Yeah the performance of the 256mb x800 gt is very good but it's obviously going to be sold for 6800 kind of prices. The 128mb X800 GT should of been released with the other x800 video cards first time around because the 6600 gt stomped all over the x600 and x700 range.
It's good to see ATI FINALLY release something even if it is using old technology, maybe now Rage3D can get back to reviewing ATI hardware and not Nvidia!

impressive in the sense that they have something to atleast compete with nvidia. but like i said, too late
I think the only reason this card exists is because Ati had a bunch of x800's with a defective quad lying around, and nothing to do with em. I mean, why in the world would you release a slower card this late in the game, when the x800 vanilla already stomps all over the 6600gt and even edges out the 6800 for $150? (and it took them long enough to get that card out the door too). If they could sell it for about $100-$120, it would have a nice price advantage over the 6600gt, and a big performance advantage over the 6600 and the 6200. Somehow, I dont think that's gonna happen.

Only the 256mb version is much faster than a 6600 gt, the 6600 gt should be compared to the 128mb version and that is pretty equal.
why is the GT version less powerful than the standard x800? alos, isn't GT nVidia's trademark? it should be the x700gt.
Probably because nVidia did the same thing to them, making the 5900XT weaker than a 5900. If you haven't picked up on it yet, these companies don't care one bit about making understandable product names - they have no regrets confusing the f... out of us.
The 6600GT should be compared to whichever x800GT version is of equal price, whether it be the 128meg or 256meg version. Only then will it be a fair comparison.
The 128mb x800 gt is going to sell for the same price as a 6600 gt and the 256mb x800 gt is going to be 25% more expensive. I am talking UK prices here not US prices, imo the more expensive price for the 256mb x800 gt makes it abit pointless because a better purchase would be a standard x800!
Yes this card is much later than NV's. And it may be too late for some people, but its not too late for others. Is there something else coming about at $150-$200 that is better? Not that I know of. Many people still post the question, "what card can I get for $200?". Now there is a new answer, or at least another option.

Just noticed that a new x800 gt review by guru3d has been posted, the Geforce 6600 GT usually does very well against the 256mb x800 gt!

They should just lower the price on the X800 (and rename it to "X800GT") to compete with the 6600GT. At this point its not good enough just to match NVidia, ATI really needs something that gives overall much better value than the 600GT - they are too far behind.

Nice review. It appears the X800GT uses the same core as the X850 series! Must be reject chips for sure. Half of the pipes are disabled, from 16 down to 8, and the core speed is down from 520 to 475. The extra pipes are probably bad, this review got the core to X850XT speeds, which gave a ~10% boost.
There is no card which uses the X850 core and 12 pipes. Opening up all 16 pipes on this card is unrealistic, but perhaps some could get to 12 pipes, which would then perform quite well.
