If that is midrange, ATI is screwed. 20XX points in 3DMark05?? :disgust:

Edit: On second thought...that can't be midrange can it?? Midrange would be based on R600 correct...just with fewer shaders like 8800GTX/GTS.

IIRC, RV610 is the entry-level series, not mid-range.. I think it is RV630 that will fill that hole.

Besides, it only has a 64-bit memory bus, so you can hardly expect it to be particularly quick..

True, but if NVidia's entry-level card is 128-bit (like predicted here ), then ATI is still screwed. Memory frequency could make up for some of it though in the RV610 pro.

I get a slight feeling that G86 will be aimed slightly above RV610.. more of an overlap of RV610 and RV630, the upper and lower ends respectively..

And yes, memory frequency could well make up for it.. if what VR-Zone says is accurate.. G86 with 128-bit @ 400mhz (800 eff.) would have roughly a 12.5% bandwidth advantage over RV610Pro with 64-bit @ 700mhz (1400 eff.) and that 12.5% could shrink/grow depending on inherent architectural efficiencies..

I don't put much trust in any of those rumors. Anyway, last gen Nvidia's 7300 budget card was a lot slower than Ati's x1300, and I don't remember Nv getting screwed from that. I have full confidence that both Ati and Nvidia will continue producing LE and SE budget cards that will perform solidly below 9800pro levels.

For what will probably end up being a $70-80 GPU that isn't bad, and performance will be better by launch. The people buying these cards aren't the gamers anyway, they don't care about 3D Mark performance. They're interested in being able to play modern games (even if it is at low settings) and the other features such as DX10.

8500GT performance

GeForce 8500GT is based on 80nm TSMC process and has 128-bit memory interface. It seems that the rest of the G86 family will be 128-bit as well so it will pose a great threat to ATi RV610 which has only 64-bit memory interface. GeForce 8500GT will be clocked at 450MHz core and has 256MB DDR2 memory clocked at 400MHz (800MHz).

We have some preliminary scores for you at this point of time where its performance is slightly better than the current GeForce 7600 GS series. Its 3DMark06 scores (1280x1024) stood at 22xx and 3DMark05 (1024x768) scores stood at around 42xx on a Core 2 Duo X6800 processor. Its DX10 performance is yet to be seen. 8500GT will be priced between US$79 to US$99

the 7300gs is slower than the x1300 but the 7300gt is faster at pretty much the same price as the 128bit x1300's.

Has anyone even noticed that a x1300 scores 3000~ in 3dmark05? why the hell would Ati make a new card that is slower?...

The 20xx 3dmark05 score is for the RV610LE, which is going to be ATI's most budget card of the lineup. Compare that to an X1300SE. I'm guessing the RV610Pro will be a good deal faster, seeing as how it's got 75% more memory bandwidth alone. RV630 will be ATI's midrange.

wrong! RV630 will be midrange and the RV610 will be low end.
