Abysmal failures, hit titles, what's the difference 😉 All of those titles fall firmly in the 'abject failure' category in the sales department(we are talking unit for unit here- they must compete with the consoles sales). That doesn't mean they were bad by any means, see EternalDarkness, Beyond Good&Evil and PoP for a few other horrible selling games that were excellent. The PC had a few titles that were at least competitive with the consoles last year, why not use those instead? We could look at something like MK😀A which can be had for $9.99 or Tenchu that can be had for $7.99 if we want something with comparable sales to the titles you listed(actually, MK😀A outsold all of the titles you listed in that blurb combined IIRC).
Thing is that computer software gets cheaper, without any fairy.
I'm not saying that console games are cheaper, I find them quite comparable overall, certainly no large price difference.

Nintendo no longer makes money on any NES games anyway, thus making the issue of illegality somewhat of a moot point. The only thing that exists is a used game market in which Nintendo makes absolutely not money.
You can buy the entire NES library for $10? Where? If games were 30cents a piece and you werent blowing smoke out of your ***, you'd have 33 games with your $10. Not the whole library.
Ebay? Would you like to know how much the entire NES catalog would cost you, even with todays much lower prices?
Send your thoughts to Nintendo and see what the response is.
What are you trolling around me now and replying to all my posts or something?
That isn't very good talk for you being religous and all. Didn't you mention in another thread that you were of a certain religion?

You're right. Thou shall not steal.
The thread was one where many of us donated money to help out a single mother.

ITS THEIR INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY JACK. You truley dont understand this do you? Seriously unless you are just arguing for the sake of arguing.. which what I hope you are doing.. this is EXTREMELY sad if an adult does not comprehend copyrights.
Mario, Luigi.. yeah all those are all their creation and so are those games.
Just because something is no longer for sale by the originator of the product does not mean it becomes free or that the copyright laws are no longer in effect, Jack.
You need to read this site and all of its links in its entirety so that you can grasp some sort of comprehension of the laws regarding copyrights.

LOL You want to talk religon now? Go ahead I'll walk circles around you. Here is the deal, please do not post that you are a Christian, and then treat others with disrespect anytime they do not agree with you. Of course no one is perfect, but your attitude isn't pious, that is for sure.
Copyrights can only go so far. I respect others property, when it doesn't limit my own freedom. If someone tells me I cannot sing the happy birthday song because it is copyrighted to AOL timewarner, then I disregard that, because it is silly.

Actually this is a tough one for me, although my son has an XBox and games, I've heard they aren't guaranteeing 100% compatibility, so I'm definitely curious about the PS3 as well. (as they've always had the edge on games)

Like I said, lets see if Nintendo (the rightful owners) agree with your thoughts huh?

Newsflash: Christianity is not a passive religon, nor is it against Christian doctrine to tell people as firmly as possible that its not OK to steal.. got that?

😕 ? 😕
Are we talking about singing happy birthday here?
What the hell is wrong with you? You will bring up anything to deflect the issue, that downloading the entire NES game library is illegal.
If you think its "silly" that intellectual property rights say its not ok to download a couple thousand Nintendo game ROMs that you dont own the originals to, then you apparantly do not think very clearly.
You didnt create the game, you didnt create the creative content/characters within the games, you dont own all the originals.. guess what buddy? Thats stealing someone elses property.
It sounds like you got shafted then. I know both HL2 and Doom 3 were available below standard retail in many online (US) stores, especially if you pre-ordered.The collectors edition of HL2 was $79.99- I bought HL2 and DooM3 the day they came out(standard retail) at EB and paid $54.99 each for them- and that was their suggested price.
Over here neither base title cost more than a standard new release price. In fact I got 15% off Doom 3 for pre-ordering and HL2 dropped pretty quickly after a few weeks. In any case it's quite disingenuous of you to suggest $54.95 is a standard US base price when really HL2 and Doom 3 are about the only two titles to ever have a RRP higher than $49.95. It's also quite limited of you to ignore trends from the international market just because prices in your local store don't happen to jive with them. How many time zones away from you is the closest US retailer?
Your opinion of a game has what to do with pricing?Who the hell cares about painkiller anyways ;( I didn't like it on pc.

How the fvck is someone "ripping off millions of hours of man-hour labor" when the freakin' game isn't even sold anymore. Sh!t, they haven't been sold in FOREVER. You are talking about Copyright infringement. That's it. So don't give me this "you stole millions of man hour labor" crap. Because the developers aren't getting SH!T when you buy someone's used Nintendo game, or download it. So please, take your bullsh!t elsewhere. Its a selling point, regardless if you are willing to rip off millions of hours of man-hour labor that was put into all those games you stole.

And yes, the Revolution is gonna be weak. 😛
* And for the record, I said I CAN play Nintendo games on my Dreamcast. I never said I DO. 😉
I know you are trying your best to make it a case of theft, but it's not. Downloading something that is no longer in production is about as wrong as speeding without getting a ticket. I'd actually say speeding is more wrong than downloading as you SHOULD have gotten a ticket and you owe the city money for breaking the law. So if you are speeding and you don't write the city a check your lawlessness, I'd say you are stealing from the city.Originally posted by: southpawuni

It doenst matter jack. Its wrong either way.
Nintendo PAID for many of those man-hours of work to create those games.
No little Johnny isnt still getting paid off a NES game sale, but Nintendo themselves had to pay Tim the Toolman to create the game at one point.
So you are saying stealing intellectual property is OK as long as the developers arent getting a cut anymore anyway?
You realize that Nintendo did pay for those devs to create those games right?
Yeah.
That means its theirs.
You pay for devs, then have everyone stealing YOUR content.
Its intellectual property.
WTF? You definitely ARE a moron. And dont call names. Thats not me asking, thats the mods telling you.

I don't have time to reply to everything I wanted to in this thread but was shocked to see the above comment; just wow.
The best selling title in Japan for the week ending 10/2? Famicom mini: Super Mario Bros. Nintendo's classic NES games have been selling in the millions of units world wide this year. In Japan in three weeks they have sold 283,000 copies of the free pack in game that came with almost every NES ever sold- that includes this month in that timeframe.
I have trouble comprehending how anyone could possibly think Nin isn't still making tons of cash on their NES games.
The official Classic NES game series site. You know, because Nintendo no longer makes money on these games.....

No. It just means its still wrong to download it without Nintendos permission. Its their intellectual property, Jack.
It doesn't matter if its for sale or not.
And I never said it wasn't against the law either. Ripping YOUR OWN DVD is also copyright infringement. If you want to call that theft, knock yourself out. :roll:Originally posted by: AnandTech Moderator
You are wrong. Intellectual property rights include the right to withhold the protected material from public distribution while the copyright or patent is in force. If you are copying and/or distributing it, you are ripping off the holder of those rights.
You've got to be kidding me. Calling someone a moron is cause for a ban? I know that is technically a personal attack but that is pretty tame. Would "doo-doo head" be viewed the same way? Sorry, I didn't know I was on the Blue's Clues forum. I apologize.Calling another member a moron does not change that, but continuing to post such uncalled for personal hostility may be reason to send YOUR bullsh!t elsewhere.

Oh my God, I just saw the sticky. Well this forum should be getting really boring, really fast. Hey, can we get rid of the joke telling too. That really gets in the way of meaningful discussions too.Originally posted by: southpawuni

You can either be a part of it, or not?
I am respecting the mods new sticky.. and when someone attacks someone personally, either the mods have to step in.. or I guess I could defend myself and attack you personally in return.
I refuse to do that. I want to be part of the solution, not the problem.
No one has to put up with those kinds of childish remarks.
You are right, your remarks do belong in Blues Clues. We are supposed to be adults here. Contrary to popular belief, becoming an adult does not mean tearing down each others character in an effort to "win" a debate.
We have enough intense debate here that is always very passoniate, no need for it to get out of control. Issues, not people.
This is just my point of view. I'm not attempting to speak for the mods in any way.. but this is basically what I gathered from reading the new sticky as to what they want done around here.

Well guys in the UK console games can range from £30 to well over £45
And PC games, most of them, not all tend to stay below the £30 mark. And quite often hover round the £25
This is taking VAT off as i dont pay that.
Also looking at Play.com if you check the new releases for both consoles and the PC you can see that the PC games have around a £5 head start on the multi platform games which are released simultaneously with each other.
BenSkywalker over here in the UK the price differences go like this for your Launch title prices.
Doom3 - Xbox - £44.99 / PC - £29.99
HL2 - Xbox £39.99 / PC - £39.99
Morrowind - Xbox £39.99 (GOTY Edition) / PC - £29.99 (Gold Pack)
Hitman: Contracts - Xbox £39.99 / PC - £29.99
Madden NFL 2006 - Xbox £39.99 / PC - £34.99
These are all based off the Reccommended Retail Price. Otherwise you wouldnt get a good indicator of priced difference as each retailer online and on the high street always put their own "deal price" on these games.
