ATI Rage Compatibility with ECS K7SEM Mobo

Manual to ECS's K7SEM mobo notes that nonNvidia 4xAGP videocards are not supported.
With ATI Rage card on system, 3D games to jerky to play yet system ran several months. Lockups and crashes became more frequent over time until general system failure. Burn marks found on red wires of connector from power supply to mobo.

May signs and symptoms be consistent with the use of the nonNvidia card?

System has 1gb memory, 1.4ghz processor (amd), 60 gb harddrive.

thanks

I have built many systems with those boards using
ATI, Kyro, SiS, 3Dfx and Matrox to name a few and
have had no problems. I would look elsewhere for the
problem, possibly the power supply, mobo or your card
in general.

Burn marks on red wires? That's 5V. That's odd. You try another power supply yet? A motherboard shouldn't be pulling "too much" 5V causing burning of insulation.

As for the video card... there shouldn't be a compatability issue. They recommend using the GeForce cards because they are too poor from selling $60 motherboards to have anything but GeForce cards in their test facility. Think about it... PC Chips had to borrow money from a shoe manufacturer in order to bail ECS out of bankruptcy. 😛

LOL!

Not even close to even being a remotely similar issue.

Your AGP slot in an AGP 2X/4X slot. Those found on most Intel Pentium 4 boardsare AGP 4X only.
