We are in the process of spec'ing new PCs for use at school with two price quotes, one for an Intel D945GTPL board and another with an ATI Radeon Xpress 200, with the only difference being the memory config. The Intel board has 2 512 sticks and the ATI board one 1gb stick.

We saw a tremendous difference on the older 915 chipset in this configuration with the dual channel setup besting the single channel by around 18%. So my question is, will the single stick affect the ATI board similarly, or will I be pleasantly surprised and find it to run just fine.
I had read the Anand review but it never mentioned specifically whether this was an issue.

So hardware gurus, what say ye ?? :cookie:

Dual channel will help your 3d performance if you're using onboard video, atleast that's from what I've seen and experienced. If they're mainly for workstations at a school and they aren't doing 3d work, I don't think you'll notice much of a difference.

Thanks for the replies everyone ... they are being put in an Elementary, which is kinda sad when you think about it ... an Intel 805D dual core running Reader Rabbit !! They are presently running mostly P2 333's with 64mb of RAM, so thats just a modest performance increase ;)
