ATI RADEON X850XT PLATINUM

hi im new to this forum and i hope im posting in the right subject- i have just purchased an ati radeon x850xt platinum and i was wondering if anyone knows how i can verify that it is indeed a platinum model. the box says platinum edition but the card itself gives no indication of this.there is a sticker on the board that has the serial #'s and part #'s and all it says is x850xt but it does not specify platinum or not. this card was a retail purchase in a "sealed" box the antistatic bag was also sealed i have phoned ati to register the card and i asked them about it and they said they do not have a record of this card i was also told that it might be because it is a new card. i did a google search to try and find some information on this but it is proving to be useless any help on this matter would be much appreciated. TIA

install drivers, go to display properties. under settings, it will say card name. also ati tool, and ati tray tool will help you.

Check your clocks. I think the Platinum differs from the normal by 20 mhz on the core.

Or check your wallet. If it is much lighter than before, than it is a real X850XT Platinum.:Q

Just as mwmorph said, install drivers, it should display the cards name, Right click desktop > properties > settings.

ATI tool will also help you to idenify the cards clock.

See if they match the x850xtpe's clocks.

thnx for the replies. the clock speeds are the same(540+590)but one could easily flash the bios of a regular xt to a platinum. when i go into display properties and click on advanced and then graphics adapter it only tells me that it is an x850 series it does not specify what model. does anyone know of any visual differences that might be able to help? thnx again . and yes my wallet is MUCH lighter . it is also the same when i check ati control panel it says x850 series. thnx again for the help i really appreciate it

Very nice, but wouldn't your wallet be much lighter with either X850 XT model?

well you said it was a retail purchase and it was all sealed when you opened it so why would you think it would be anything other then a x850xt plat edition card?

The PE costs more than the X850Xt version. It would be about $30.00 heavier.😉

I mean, it is not like you bought this out of the back of a van did you?

no i didnt buy it out of the back of a van, and if i did i wouldnt be so concerned about it. its just that i find it hard to believe that there is nothing on the card itself that denotes it as being a platinum edition. everything i use to check tells me the same thing x850 series man this is really starting to bug me, maybe ill try phoning ati again and bugging them for a bit. thnx again guys i really appreciate it

Do yourself a favor and save the dime. Download ATI Tray Tools here:

http://www.radeon2.ru/atitray/index.html

Then just mouse over the tray icon to check the clocks and compare them to the official X850 XT PE specs.

Actually, even better, right click on the tray icon and go to "hardware" and "system information" Under "display adapter" it'll tell you *exactly* what you have.

Bettery yet, has anyone run into the same problem? i want to know too because i plan on buying one within the next couple of weeks!

THIS JUST IN- it is confirmed this is indeed a platinum edition, phew. for anyone in the future if you purchase this card register it immediately and if you have any doubts just phone ati and MAKE sure you are talking to someone who is knowledgeable as i had to phone twice and speek to two different people. there are no markings on the card itself. LET THE GAMES BEGIN!!! thnx for all the help guys i really appreciate it.
