which video card is better???
i want to buy a new vid card but i dont know which one
they are both $399
i always liked and USED ati but if i can get better card for the same price why not swich
 
Let's not forget about power consumption, driver bugs, fan noise, OC-ability, etc. If you care about Doom III and OpenGL performance only, the the 6800 line is supreme, otherwise it's not that cut and dry IMO. Both cards have pros and cons, benchmarks don't tell the whole story, just ask all of the EQ2 players who ran out and bought 6800s because the logo was on the box.

General Performance = same*
but yes in benchmarks at least (not everyone has a fx55 set up) the 6800gt is teh winnar hands down

Staying power = 6800gt, its got the more complete feature set, has 16pipes like the more expensive cards

i would say get the 6800gt but u cant really go wrong with either
 
NV's reaction and response to the busted WMV HD acceleration feature was enough to make me return my 6800 and go with an X800 Pro. So my choice was made based on ethical reasons not performance issues. 🙂

And the OP doesn't say what criteria he is basing his needs on. OP, can you tell us what you are planning to do with the card? If gaming, which games in the immediate future do you plan to play?
 
Agreed megaman, I will be supporting ati in the near future as well. Nvidia 6800 cards are buggy POS imo, how do I know? I own one 🙂
