So if it is that easy to get an X1900XT to XTX specs, why do people buy the XTX at all then, rather than just OC & flashing an XT?

1. Not all XT's overclock to XTX speeds
2. Some people believe the XTX to be cherrypicked, so you have a better chance at the absolute highest overclock.
3. Some people just don't want to di#k around with it.

Well, I would also prefer the XTX due to #3...there is an OEM version on newegg available, and it looks like it comes with everything except the box, which I really don't care about. Is there any other differences between OEM & retail?

Agreed, for high-end gaming, this is the ticket!

so I am going to get an XTX, but again, is there a difference, other than packaging, of getting the oem version as opposed to the retail version?

no difference, the newegg oem one is good.
A friend of mine at ATI gave me an ATI retail boxed X1900XT and its the same as the OEM sapphire one that my friend bought too.
Also before anyone flashes their biox to XTX pull off the heatsink and make sure your XT has 1.1ns rated memory or you are taking even more of a risk than you already are by flashing.
My X1900XT clocks up to 679/797 (core/mem), an XT overclocked to those same settings is not going to be any faster, These are extremely good clocks for my card, so I am not going to flash it. Although if you have a good board, you might be able to push it farther. In the end, the flashing is only if want to run 650/775 without any need for overclocking because those settings would be specified in the bios. The quality of the board you get determines what OC frequencies you can get, not the bios flash. The card you got originally just determines the rated baseline frequencies.

Well that just about does it. All decisions made, so I will place the order when I get home.

A8R32-MVP
Opteron 170
X1900XTX
G Skill Extreme 2GB DDR 500 memory
X-fi extreme music

NEC 3550A DVD Burner
Seasonic S12 600W PSU
Gigabyte 3d Aurora case

x1900xt(x) will spank 7900gt(x)
unless u like playing games with a $400-500 video card with jagged edges/lines, blurry images in your games

newegg?

Yup. Only question is, should I get the Case with the side mesh panel or the side window? Not sure which model would be better with the X1900XTX config.

# POWERCOLOR 1900XT512MB Radeon X1900XT 512MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card - Retail

Is this a good brand to buy compared to others? like Sapphire, Gecube

Zap Brannigan, WTH are you talking about?? 😵

I'm saying that video game companies are milking Direct X9.

Every 6 months they add a couple of pipe lines or a shader or two......

Feature creep is no fun.

Dude. have u noticed that no one really cares what u have to say? Go read ur posts on teh first page and ur hatred towards video card manufacturers is apparent. Wonder why u even decided to get a Nvidia. just stick with on board graphics and stfu

Zap Brannigan, you have to realize what forum you are in. We are PC hardware enthusiasts. We love to fiddle around with the newest/greatest hardware. So, if you make a statement like that, it won't be well received. I think it's great that technology advances. Its up to you to decide if a card is worth it or not -- within reason. Maybe you are willing to spend $300 max for a card. Maybe $200. The price can be a plus but it can carry many 2ndary effects, like crap performance when new games come in.

I have a blast with computers too. It's alot more fun when companies are'nt trying to rip you off though.

Ok let's hop in a time machine for the sake of argument, which would you prefer, 2 Geforce 2's in SLI and paying lot's of money for this, or for Nvidia to hurry up and release the Geforce 3 so you can pay less than you would for a pair of Geforce 2's and have actual new technology for a fair price?
