Hey everyone,
I believe I have witnessed the horror of Dell's Indian call centers first-hand (I might change my mind on outsourcing). Due to a tax charge showing on my online order for the ATI Radeon 9800Pro128mb, I had to call cust. service. I gave the item # and description and had it confirmed. My confirmation email came 2 days later after I called for it and it just said CRD; GRPHC; 128MB; R350; DIM. The item number is 6T996. I received it today without a product box or specific model name or number. It looks like the 9800pro in pictures, but when I called tech support, they say it is the 9800--not the pro model (but they do not seem very sure). Suffice to say, I am shipping it back tomorrow and placing an order with newegg or another reputable retailer. Any thoughts on what I received?? Is it worth it to keep the 9800 (1-2 billing cycles for credit and I paid $198/no shipping).
Also, will there be any power supply issues with my Dell 4600(2.8, 533 fsb, p4, 1G ram) and the 9800pro 128mb card? The user guide says my system only has 250w, which suprised me on a new system. Thanks, Trent

Why not try to pop it in the computer and see if it's a pro or not? As for the power question, its fine. Dell calculated the wattages and made sure it'll be compatible.

Yeah R350 is the ATi name for the 9800 core.

You shouldn't have problem with your power or anything. People run shuttles with more power hungry components than that and 9800 Pros on 200W

Look at your system's settings or run a benchmark software that automatically identifies your vid card.

Did you buy a retail version from Dell? If you did then it should've come in the retail box, but if you bought bulk or OEM it would've come probably in a brown unmarked box.

Install it and check the clock speeds with ATI Tool, Powerstrip, or Radlinker.

Typically Dell PSU's may have 250 watt PSU's but they are ussually rated pretty low they ussually have pretty tight rails.

Some/all newer Radeon 9800 Pro's come with R360(9800 XT) cores.

Thanks for all the replies and help. I have the ref# and will call UPS in the morning for the scheduled pick up. I thought I had ordered the retail version, as the link on the site did not say OEM, but as my previous post stated, somewhere on the phone order it all fell apart...

JBT: Does being rated low and tight rails increase power/cooling efficiency?
