I'm curious, I'm going to purchase an ATI radeon 9500 at the end of this month. And I was wondering, when I install it. Does it require you to install Directx9? Meaning in the actual instalation of the drivers will it install Dx9? Because I tried installing directx9b awhile back, and had to do a system restore it messed my computer up so badly. Using a gf2u that is..

If it does, I don't suppose it will matter, because I have a dx9 complaint videocard heh.. But I'm just wondering. Thanks alot..

It'll work with DX8, but the latest drivers are optimized for DX9... I'd use DX9 if I were you. (might be time for a clean OS install?)

Yes the newest drivers require DX9...

Actually they don't require DX9. DX9 is unnecissary unless you are running the new 3dmark or ATI DX9 demos.

Actually, you can use the Cat 3.0 / 3.0a / 3.1 with DX8/8.1 , The Cat 3.XX drivers just add official support for DX9, it doesnt say that you have to run DX9 to use them. I`ve had all 3 of the above drivers running on DX8.1 , the reason i didnt install DX9 as well, is because i was waiting for it to be on a cover disk(ive got a 56k connection).

Thanks alot everyone. That helps clear a few things up for me. I want to do a clean install of my OS. However, I'm having troubles with my cd-rw so I'm unable to back up my stuff at the moment. Atleast now I know that I can use the chip with directx8.1 until I get my burner functioning again.

Thanks again guys. Happy valentines day..
