I am going to be getting a video card soon, and the only reason I am considering ATi is because I want good 2D and DVD support. I have been wanting to get the Radeon DDR Vivo for the Vivo functionality, but since that is being phased out, I am not sure if I should still get that. The next best thing ATi has now is the AIW Radeon 7500. I don't really need to the AIW features, just Vivo will do. Is the Radeon 7500 card a better card than that Radeon DDR Vivo? Will I get better 3D gaming performance from the Radeon 7500? Any comments will be appreciated....

yes, the Radeon 7500 performs better than the original Radeon card. I just got myself the All-In-Wonder Radeon 7500 and swapped out my Gainward GeForce2 Ti. I'm getting basically the same performace with the Radeon 7500 as I was with the GeForce2 Ti card.

although you may not need the extra features of the AIW card over the VIVO card, the ease of the AIW card makes it worth it I think. For starters, you get a breakout box with the AIW, which includes S-Video In, Composite In, and RCA Audio In, which you can put on your desk so you don't have to reach around to the back of your computer every time you want to plug in video. As well as many more options for output (such as 5.1 digital), the AIW 7500 comes with a remote control and RF reciever (USB). This is a very nice feature for watching DVD's and since it's RF you don't even have to be in the same room for the reciever to pick up the remote signals.

anyhow, that's just my 2cents, hope it helped some :)

Want to buy my VIVO Radeon :) . Anyways, The 7500 Radeon is faster then the VIVO Radeon. It has faster memory(4ns) and a faster core. So, yes you would get better 3D performance via the Radeon 7500. Just depends on whether or not you want to spend the extra $ on the AIW.

I'm a believer in buying what you need when you need it. I've got the Radeon DDR VIVO on my personal system and
use it as my stock video card for clients. The 2D quality and support for DVD is excellent and the gaming quality is acceptable to all but the most fanatical FPS gamer.I also think you'd probably be looking to upgrade again before lack of driver support became an issue . Buy only what you need, use the money saved to get something else imho.

The problem is I can get the AIW Radeon 7500 or the Radeon DDR Vivo for about the same price online. I have found the Radeon DDR Vivo for about $100-$110 on ebay and FS:FT places, but those are mostly used cards. I am starting to seriously consider the AIW Radeon 7500 now, I have the Rage Fugy, and that is just not cutting it with the latest games..... =(

BTW, will I get the same package of stuff with the OEM version of the AIW Radeon 7500? And a bit off what I was asking about, but is there a big difference between the 7500 and 8500?

There are Radeon Vivo's on the for sale board here in the range of like $80 including shipping, as to the rest I think others have answered the bulk of your questions.
