But you can get better choice after a month, NVidia going to anounce another high end
AGP card. Even if you choose ATI, prices will be much lover.

What would you know? Besides if it is a 7900 or 7950, it will still be slower than a X1950Pro and have a worse IQ. Remember ATIs Exel with AA and AF turned on and high resolutions, something the 7900 series cannot do, they might be faster with no AA, AF, but who plays games like that? Once you turn the AA, AF Nvidia falls behind. Unless they come out with a 8800 series on AGP, which I doubt they will, then the X1950Pro is the best choice.

OP, if you CPU can handle it, a X1950Pro is going to be leaps ahead of a 9800Pro.

depending on what CPU you have, a X1950Pro should offer a huge lead in perfomance.

Hmmm So Nvidia might release another AGP part....I wonder what it could be, I've already seen the Gainward 7800GS+ (7900GT) and GS-GLH (7900GS) in action and they are very impressive...but hardly worth the AU$550+ price tag...If Nvidia does release another AGP I hope they keep the price down to compete with the X1950Pro, especailly in Australia where they can be had for as little as AU$380.

Yeah they are great cards, but worth the money? For one they are not available in the USA so I could not even think about them. Once you turn the AA, AF on these cards they fall behing ATIs counter part and not to mention ATI has a better IQ. Like I said unless it is a 8800 series or 8600, which is not even out for PCi-E. then the ATI is going to be the better choice.

It's probably just me, but I really can't tell the difference in IQ between the ATI and Nvidia cards...not that I really care much anyway...I still game at 1024x768 without any AA/AF....I always prefer a higher frame rather than a few less jaggies in games....I hate lag :p

Ohh I mostly game at 1600 x 1200 with 6X AA and 16X AF all HQ and I do not lag in most modern games. I like smooth lines and great textures,

I don't doubt it. Since I still have an AGP machine (A64 3000+ @ 2.5GHz) I could theoretically test the 2 cards mentioned here (since I was considering getting a X1950 Pro AGP). I expect a game like Oblivion (which might be 15fps with ugly settings) to run at 3x the speed with a X1950 Pro (45fps with much nicer settings).

And since I'm keeping CPU and RAM constant, it's a fair test... will let y'all know if I ever do that ;)

you are crapping same nonsense again.

Is it hard to say: performance gain is 2-3x. There's no but and there's no strategy. There's nothing competitive in AGP segment to X1950 pro.

I made this exact upgrade a couple months ago. (When I built a new system)
The performance difference is massive, you will see at the very minimum double the speed with higher settings, probably more.

"Bend over and get ready to be majorly pw3n3d!," said the X1950 to the 9800 Pro :D
I hopped from a 6600GT (~9800 Pro) to a X1900XT last March and the difference was massive. Being able to set-and-forget at 1280x1024 in every game = t3h sweetness!
