Yea, know that, but was wondering how you could tell by the picture. :) The heatsink or somethin?

it will work for the ATI 9800Pro 256/256MB card (which i bought from NewEgg a couple of months ago for $223) . . . however, Rev 3 will evidently not work for the "real" XT.

This cooler is awesome - you case tem will probably go UP since the 9800Pro is "hot" anyway; since the cooler exhausts Hot Air from the GPU out of the case, it will probably LOWER your case temps. :)

Microcenter, Overland Park, KS, has 20 of them in stock.

I might go pick one up here in a bit.

I'm kind of torn though..

I have a radeon 9500 softmodded to a 9700 that seems to work pretty well for most everything.

Its overclocked to 360 mem, 310.5 core with rage3d tweak. I get no artifacting, no crashing, nothing. Aside from doom3, everything is like butter (doom 3 is smooth in 95% of gameplay).

Is the speed difference going to be that great for the price/value of this card over what I currently have?

nope, not worth it.. going to keep my over the hill radeon 9500/9700 card.

This deal is now on it's second ad cycle - up to 8/29 now.

Also, they've lowered their standard price on Doom 3 to 46.87 now - which is the price you had to use a coupon on to get a few days ago.

Wow this seems like a HOT deal for $179.99! i missed it back in July... seems like I'll be picking one up soon!

Is the $50 back from the credit card signup instant cash back or a gift card or rebate check or what?

Apply at the store and, if approved, get a $50 savings certificate by mail for your next purchase when you purchase at least $50 on your Micro Center Rewards VISA® Credit Card that day

It requires some legwork, then - buy the card, recieve the $50 coupon, then return the card the next day and repurchase it using the coupon.

Some have claimed to get 50 off automatically, though. God knows what the wait time would be for the coupon - this deal ends 8/29.

Dont forget to get a new heatsink for this card, the stock one is not enough just the XT starndard speed.

The site looks like the credit card offer has changed -- $100 rebate when you buy a motherboard/cpu combo?

That DOES make it a good deal. At the full 230, it's only 50 more for the vanilla 6800's, which who knows they may come up with another driver revision increasing performance even more? ( I mean it, does anyone know?)

I think the 6800 Plain is 20% better performance than the real XT. If so: 280 x .80 = 224
Then add the cost of your VGA Silencer, plus voiding your warranty by adding it.
The real XTs should be 225.

Still if you are like me, even $200 was a stretch, financially and psychologically. If you can get that extra 50 off, awesome.

There were about 20+ in the peripheral display case in the MC B&M in Fairfax, VA at 7pm 8/12.

It should also be known that the Visa deal is ONLY valid for B&M purchases as you need to apply for the card in-store.

They've also dropped the price of the Iceberq BGA pure copper RAMsinks to 14.99 down from the 17.99 they used to be.

REMINDER - The 179.99 price should be considered NET. Treat the $50 off certificate as an MIR as it's valid on your next purchase! If you get it before the 29th, you could return your initial purchase and rebuy a new card - but that's placing a LOT of trust in their processing department and the US Postal Service.

Additionally, I advise you all to read the fine print about the $50 certificate as it is only good for 90 DAYS from date of issue.

The 20% off ATI and eVGA cards has already happened this year, as well as the famous 20% off digital cameras deal. There IS a chance of the 20% off all Western Digital drives before 12/31/04 but again, it's a gamble.

NOTE: For those that don't know, Micro Center holds a few hotly anticipated deals that seem to recur at different times each year, but recur FAITHFULLY. These are:

20% off all ATI and eVGA cards (usually also includes Mad Dog - but who cares about them) (hit last April/May)
20% off all Digital Cameras (has already occurred)
20% off all Western Digital hard drives (HASN'T taken place yet)

Their price on the 74GB Raptor is inflated at 259.99, which means even with 20% off and this certificate it would still be flirting with the deals that have already existed from Newegg.

That being said, don't make the certificate your sole reason to buy this card - chances are you might be spending it on crap if no good deals happen 90 days after you receive it. You can always hold out for end-of-the-year/holiday sales at this point, but again, it's a gamble.

In regards to the 6800 deal - evidently the new RivaTuner is going to include a softmod that could enable all 16 pipelines in 6800 non-GT/Ultra cards. They haven't said anything else except to expect the mod in their next version.

It's your call, really. No one really knows how a 16-pipeline 6800 non-GT/U will bench until they make with the next version.
