I think he meant 9900 Pro (256MB - 400/920 version).

Then why is FIC saying the above configuration is a 9800Pro and why is it clocked so much higher than the 128MB version? Somebody has to be wrong here, it can't be both.

I'm also wondering that ... Imagine the costs of 256MB of ultrafast DDR-II memory. It would be more logical to release it with 128MB. Guess we'll have to wait to figure this one out ...
And Anand's review is 1h30m late ... I'm refreshing the home page once a minute! 😛

Anand:

NVIDIA will not have a chance to respond to the Radeon 9800 Pro for another couple of months, with their NV35 part. NVIDIA has NV35 up and running and it is already significantly better than the lackluster NV30; although we're not sure if it will be able to outperform the Radeon 9800 Pro, at this point we can say that from what we've seen, NVIDIA has regained some of our confidence.

Unfortunately, no. Looks like we'll have to wait another few weeks for those.

From what I can guess, the Radeon 9600 PRO and 9500 PRO might be neck-and-neck with the Radeon 9500 PRO having a slight edge. The Radeon 9600 PRO will run cooler, have no secondary power connector, and may have lots of OC potential, however. *Shrugs, we got to wait*

"The biggest performance bottleneck of the Radeon 9500 Pro was the fact that the memory interface was still basically half of a 9700 Pro, meaning that all the buffers were still optimized for a 4 x 64-bit memory controller layout and not the 2 x 64-bit configuration that the 9500 Pro actually used. With the RV350, the entire memory interface is optimized and tuned for a 128-bit memory interface, thus extracting a bit more performance out of the core.

The RV350 doesn't stop there, and actually features a superior Hyper-Z engine to what is found in the R350; the reason being that with a 0.13-micron chip you've got more room to play around with and ATI wasn't as constrained with the design of the RV350 as they were with the R300. The end result is that the RV350 features a higher Z compression ratio (8:1 vs. 6:1) and an overall more efficient memory controller; we will have to wait until the 0.13-micron successor of the R350 before see an improved version of the RV350 memory controller in ATI's flagship line."

Hopefully that'll get the 9600 Pro performance a decent amount higher than the 9500 Pro. ::crosses fingers::

Bleh, 9600pro only sports a 4 x 1 pixel pipe.

RV350 remains the same as the Radeon 9500 (non-Pro): DX9 support, 4 pixel pipes, 1 texture per pipe, and 2 x 64-bit memory controllers.

Optimized memory controllers and higher core and memory frequencies may help, but considering most games today benefit from high fill-rate, this thing better OC well if it plans on performing as well as the 9500pro.

The 9800 Pro offers some nice speed bumps and features but I haven't decided whether it's worth getting one since I already have a 9700 Pro. I might wait for the 0.13 um 9900 instead.

We'll see. 😉

The most interesting battle will occur between the Radeon 9600 Pro and NVIDIA's forthcoming NV31 part (look for a preview of the technology later today), we're hard at work at bringing you all benchmarks of both cards so stay tuned for those reviews as well...

That's what i'm looking forward too!

So let me get this straight...the only difference between the 9700 Pro 128MB and 9800 Pro 128MB are clock speeds?
No, the card also includes new features such as an F-buffer, a better version of Hyper-Z and full FP128 support.

I think it's safe to say, that as a .13u product, RV350 will overclock better than R350.

Edit: Though Anand got a decent OC with R350, We were quite pleased to be able to overclock the Radeon 9800 Pro from its stock 380/340MHz clocks to 420MHz core and 380MHz memory, without any visual artifacts.

Yeah, GTaudiophile cleared that up about halfway through the thread.

Ok ATI i love the new ATI 9800 pro and yes its fast but i still want faster ATI. ATI please bring on your super secret weapon video card that will blow everyone so much away we can't believe it! I am talking like 60 to 80 fps minimum fps in games even in unreal 2003, doom 3, Comm. 4, Unreal 2, etc at 1600x1200 with all details on maximum !!!!!!!! Plus maximum FSAA (6x) and maximum AF (16x) setting on Quality not performence. Inless ATI you want to make FSAA to 8x or even 16x with no performence decrease to really blow everyone away! Plus maybe make AF at 32x too with no performence decrease hehe! But remember ATI these settings with minimum fps of 60 to 80 fps. So that means average fps will be around 90 to 100 fps + at 1600x1200 with all detials on maximum. Plus maximum FSAA and maximum AF on Quality not performence!

I know everyone i want too much speed but hey whats wrong with trying to dream? Heck it may become a reality sooner than we think with this great video card battle! I think ATI i can do it and will do it soon!

I'm looking forward to the release of fanless 9600 Pro cards myself...but that's just me. 😀

Yes, quite a while ago. We should have samples very soon.

With the FX being so big and slow and hot on a smaller process it is just silly. And what's this blurb about ATI regaining the crown? They haven't lost it. As others, I am kinda secretly selfishly happy that my 9500 Uber Alles Edition is not going to plummet in value just yet 😉

The ATI 9800 pro and ATI 9700 pro is very fast but i still need faster! I just want faster. I may be crazy but still i need faster!!!

Negative. R350 has improvements in the core (Smartshader 2.1 and Pixelshader 2.1 (as opposed to 2.0 in R300)) and F-buffer

Evan??? Fanless 9600 Pro cards? What next, an Geforce FX 5800 without the OTES (the fan)? 😉

After seeing all the reviews (almost all of them) regarding the new 9800 Pro 128 version, I was nearly sold on getting the card myself, but then thought again - I'm broke.. I'll be broke again if I buy the 9800 Pro... so why the hell, I'd be better off buying the 9700 Pro right now and that way I can leave out some money for those pr0n sites... errr, food. 😉

Man.. so many posts in so little time - I'm amazed, guys - keep up the good work.
