I don't know this for sure, but there should be no way that this card comes without DVI. If anything, it wouldn't come with VGA and you'd have to use a DVI>VGA adapter. I'm fairly certain it has both though just like the 9500PRO card that I had.

What do you have to do to get the game? Is there a coupon inside the box? Do you have to send in a UPC code or something? Which ATI cards have the free game?

Sal

9600XT is between 9500 Pro and 9700. Better than 9800SE BTW, if you ask 😛

And I believe this is great deal (Ya.. Half Life 2 coupon might have value between 0 to few, but also, many people want it for 30 bucks since it's cheaper than them to buy retail package anyway)

I think there is a coupon that has an activation code in the box. You d/l the game and activate it with the code.

Thanks for posting this deal. However, after a bit of reading, I decided to go with a ATI 9600 (not pro, not XT, not SE) card. It's the Sapphire which is sold @ NewEgg for $104 - shipped. It features DVI, TV-Out, etc. and from what I've read, it can be O.C. to levels of the 9600 Pro.

Best of all, there is no rebate involved.

I thought H.L. 2 was scheduled for release at the end of Sept 2003? If so, damn, that game is a little bit late. Any word on the "proposed" release date?

Someone broke in and stole some game code. That's why the release is being pushed back. No real date given yet. Some say this fall now.

Well, I think one can go with the 9600xt on Newegg, no taxes in most states and the price is still only 152 something for at least any one of the brands all time.

im still using my good ol' Hercules 3D Prophet II ULTRA 64MB from what seems like decades ago ;p but its fine since the only game i really play anymore is Tribes (the original, not the crappola 2nd one). i have decided that when i do finally upgrade my vid card, its gonna be to an ATI. maybe this one. 🙂

Yes, lots of words (& directly from Vavle)...

Wow, thanks for the link. I still find it hard to believe that such a catastrophe existed. I mean someone within Valve should have had the idea to back up the game code. Certainly, there is a great lesson to be learned from this situation.

The 9000, and 9200 are DirectX8.1 cards and have two less pixel pipelines, two less texture units, and a vertex shader fewer then their regular cards. To compensate a bit they upped the clock speed of the chip, but it still doesn't benchmark as well on most games.

These cards are budget cards that will not work as well as even the 8500 series.

The 9600xt is actually a pretty awesome card for it's price.

Here's their latest video card lineup at Tom's Hardware guide. Click on one of the benchmarks to see a graph.

that's a good point. i was wondering if i should have named my "9600 product comparison" link "dvi or not" or something thereof

I just got it yesterday and it works great for me. Had a problem with Call of Duty where the game would dim but reverting back to the drivers on the CD fixed it. Can't say how huge of a difference over my FX5200 it is since I don't benchmark, but it blows away an older MX200 card.

Some are saying it was leaked on purpose so Valve could have a reason to delay the release possibly because it wasn't ready yet. Kinda like people saying SCO was behind the MyDoom virus. Who knows? 😕

some people might scoff, but i notice a lot of info about doom and hl2 has dried up imo
i remember the new doom was supposed to run on a voodoo 3 2000...
on the front page of this site -- they are talking about the new pci express, and it's technological implications -- might affect those upgrade choices further...

edit:

HL2 is supposedly coming out later this year, around Sept. Valve announced that they'll be demoing it at E3 in May in L.A.

yea, tye 9000pro is a pos, have to lower all settings in 1942 to get silky smoothness...not an old game at all

Well, it is being demoed in eastern Europe as we speak. Valve aparently did not tell the whole story--the entire game was stolen (game source code+steam source code, artwork, level design, etc.) I've heard you can buy "HL2 pre-release" for like $3 over there now :disgust:

Just a tip for those who have a CompUSA and Circuit City in your area. CompUSA has their Radeon 9600XT on sale this week for $169.99, so you should be able to price match at Circuit City and get another $20 back on the deal, lowering your price to $129.99+taxes.

I think the special at Circuit City ended this past Saturday evening for the 9600XT. If that's the case, then you won't be able to do a price match on this video card.

Dogg, the entire game was not stolen so stop spreadig false sh!t. Only about a third of the code was taken. I know cause i have the "special" version that was released by a "special" group of coders. Basically, wait for it to come out first then decide to buy the card. But at 129.99 after taxes is decent, it depends on what kind of gamer you are. I have a 128mb Ti4200 and my gaming experience is great. Yea Halo runs like crap unless I OC everything(cpu/ram/videocard) but I will still wait till, at the every least Painkiller drops in march/april. That should be a good test to see whether u need to upgrade or not. Or try to play pc halo....lol

i think the PM suggestion was meant for people who got in on the CC deal last week. CC has 30 day PM policy.

is this deal ended? I need new graphic card but cant seem to find good price. Currently I have Xtasy 9600 256mb. I want to get 9600xt 128mb version so i can overclock higher. When did the rebates ended? Compusa still has it for 169.99 so i can pricematch to circuitcity for extra 17(or 20?) so bring it down to around 150+tax

I just got back from CC. My cc didnt have it stock but price was 199.99 with $20 rebate. PM to compusa and get it to around 130
