From FW - buy ATI RADEON 9600 XT 128MB AGP off the ATI site, use 10% discount code from FW and trade up ANY old video card to get the price. No tax and free shipping.

midwestfisherman, FW is Fat Wallet forum. Person who originally found this deal posted this in a different forum site. Here's the link to original thread:

I forget but the XT version - is that the higher end version of the 9600 or the lower end - I always get confused because Nvidia had the XT being at one end of the spectrum, and ATI had the other end....... 🙂

I'm still on the fence. Any idea of how much an improvement this would be over my 8500 pro, 128mb?

It would be a great improvement. The old 8500s were awesome cards that long outlived their intended usefulness, but for gaming at least, they've reached the end of their usefulness. You should be able to play any new game with the 9600 XT. It's a nice card. And this is a nice price. I'm going to bite on this one.

I think its overpriced. My 90 dollar 9700 nonpro from Ebay 3 months ago will beat it. I'd wait for a hot deal on a 6600 or some sorta refurb from newegg...

Man that was quick. Not only free delivery but overnight delivery to boot. Ordered yesterday around 1:00 got it today around noon.

Whats the value for the trade ins. You can get more for your card on E*AY and get a better deal on this card at new*gg

i believe it's 170 - 10% coupon code and then 50 dollar trade in they didnt specify any card so i'm assuming it can be any card.

I send ATI an old 4 MB AGP card that wouldn't get $0.50 on eBay. ATI will give me $50.00 credit for the POS card. 169-10%-50 (credit) = 102.00

Also Newegg's price on this same card is 160.50. The same chipset sold by other companies is still 134.00
Check it out here

I don't see this as being a better deal anywhere else for the 9600XT. The cheapest they are going for on eBay for a new card is still over $100.00 plus 15.00 to 20.00 in shipping. This way you also have a 3 year warranty that might not happen if you buy on eBay.

Sandersann, no Half Life 2, downloaded the demo from the ATI site though. Don't forget to download the latest drivers from ATI.

To answer an earlier question the XT is better than a regular version of an ATI card, here's the usual progression in order of best performance to worst performance, although not every card has all of these:

XT
Pro
(regular)
SE

I went for It

that will allow me to play games like Doom 3 and Far Cry at decent (although not stellar) framerate and features while postponing building my new PC until the summer. at that time, current high end video cards will be cheaper, Nforce 4 mobos will be widely available and thoroughtly tested and costing less.
