ATI Radeon 9600 PRO or GeForce4ti 4400

9600 pro. They're about equal until you turn on aa and af, then the 9600 pro takes off and leaves the 4400 in the dust. The 9600 is probably a little faster in new games too.

Hell, 9600XT's only have 2.8 and that's Powercolour.

ATi 9600XT's have 3.3ns, I doubt the 9600Pro will have 2.5. 9800Pro's only have 2.8.

It's up to the manufacturer what ram they put on lthe card, I have a sapphire 9600pro card with 2.8ns ram on.

9600 pro easy. It is a little bit faster normally. THen when you turn on aa/af it loses very small performance, but the ti loses well over 50% i would take the 9600 pro over the ti4600 easy. Heck, the 9600 pro is faster then anything nvidia has in games like halo, tomb raider aod, half life 2, doom3 and more future games. If it has direct x 9, the 9600 pro is faster then the gffx 5950 ultra. Dx 8 or 7, it is about as fast as a ti4400-4600.

Like everyone else has said, the two card are very close until you throw in AA/AF or DX9, then the 9600 of course wins. If the two cards were priced the same, the choice would be obvious. But since the 4400 is cheaper, you need to weigh how important the speed of the 9600 is , and whether you'll see it in the games you play.

What happened with your friend selling you a Ti4600 for $50?

Ti4400's are getting hard to find, and expensive, new. Here is a refurb:

You can also find them occasionally as refurbs at Newegg.

I, personally, would look on Ebay and for sale by private sellers in forums like Anandtech's for sale forum.

They can be found used for good prices, but, IMO, are not worth it if they approach 9600 Pro prices ($150+). Used for around $90 or even less, though, are a good deal.

Blastman posted a link to some with fast RAM. 2.5ns, I think.

No way. 2.5ns??? On a Radeon 9600?

Jiffylube1024 and Lonyo,

Check out this thread:

Blastman posted links to a couple of resellers selling this card.

Ah, you're right. I guess I forgot about that. It would have been better if you posted "Blastman posted a link to the Gigacube Ultimate R9600Pro with 2.5ns memory," insted of making it sound like you were pulling it out from (somewhere).

I guess we all have brain farts occasionally. 😉
