ATI RADEON 9600 PRO $159 shipped NEWEGG.COM

This model R96-C3G has the slower memory clock of 200X 2 or 400MHZ vs. 300 X 2 or 600 MHZ. The 600MHZ version is the commonly accepted 9600 Pro. This is a scaled back model, thus the lower price.

how do these compare to the 9600 Pro's from ATI? If only this was tax-free like dell, it'd be on par with the 9600Pro's in 9600SE boxes 🙁 Oh well.

That is not the scaled back one... This is

You are very correct, my bad. I had a couple windows going and got confused.

Honest mistake. Back in August, I ordered a scaled back powercolor 9600 pro ez (not a real pro). When i found out what it actually was, i cancelled the order ASAP.

I'm interested in knowing why the 400mhz one is still considered pro.

They're usually called "ez" or "lite" versions. To be a pro apparently all that is required is a 400mhz core.

But..this isn't really that hot of a deal, is it? I've seen other 9600 pro's for around $140.

The 9600 Pro should also come with the HL2 coupon, not just XT cards. My 9600 AIW did anways.

Maybe they SHOULD come with a HL2 coupon but they don't! I just bought a ATI 9600 Pro 2 weeks ago and no coupon.

The 9600Pros never came with nor will they ever come with the HL2 coupon. THose were reserved for the 9600A-I-W, the 9600XT, the 9800Pro, and the 9800XT.

That's only partially true. The 9800 Non-PRO also never had a HL2 sticker on them, but there were deals where a coupon from the store where you bought the card would let you send away for the HL2 coupon. That was the case for me, anyway.
Before buying the 9600PRO, you might want to confirm with NewEgg if they have a HL2 offer, that'll tell you for sure.

Also if the budget allows $200, see if you can find a 9800 Non-PRO at Circuit City or Microcenter. Maybe you'll get lucky; the 9800 easily outpaces any 9600, PRO or XT. Stay away from anything SE, that also goes for the 9800.

Well, then I'd ask.. how well do the XT's overclock? 🙂

I cant find the benchmarks, but how fast is a 9600 XT compared to a 9800 pro? Could I overclock the XT at all? (I know each card will be different, but in general terms do the XT's OC?)
