Text is not that bad. It's pretty much on par with the GF4. I will have to agree that DVI doesn't make that much difference. Where it does make a difference from what I hear is on 3d playback on a LCD. I guess it keeps images from Ghosting or Streaking because it's faster. I really don't notice any difference though.

I also ran 3dBenchmark2001SE and here are my scores on a XP 1800+ and ECS KS75A (think that's the model). I always get the numbers turned around. I'm running at stock speeds btw. Nothing overclocked.

Visiontek GF3 Ti200 64 mb 6630
PNY GF4 Ti4200 64 mb 8x AGP 9300
ATI RADEON 9500PRO 10,100

The score difference is pretty significant between the GF3 Ti200 and the GF4 and 9500PRO. This is a very nice price for the 9500PRO, so it's tough to say. I'd probably upgrade for this price. If you had a GF4, that might be a tougher decision though.

Also.. I think it depends on the system that you have also. I'm sure that my modest system isn't complimenting these cards all that much. I'm sure that my scores would be higher if I had a different mobo and a faster processor.

My card exactly. Thanks for the very relevant (to me) comparison!

I had a Ti4200 128MB in my rig before. I play a lot of BF42/DC, and to me the 9500 Pro is worth the upgrade simply because I can now run the game with 1024x768 4x FSAA. I haven't tried any higher, but expect me to do so later today. The Ti4200 caused quite a bit of mouse lag once I turned on FSAA or hit a higher resolution.

You can't flash a 9500 pro into a 9700 pro. Ever. You are maybe thinking of the 9500 NON- PRO mod/bios hack to a 9700 non pro?

For those looking on the westside LA, there are none left in Culver City, Westwood, or West LA... I was able to snag the last one from Westwood (open box) for 129.99 for those who can find them.

anyone know how these cards compared to a Geforce4 Ti4200? I was planning to buy that until I saw this at BB but still not sure.

If you don't already have the Ti4200, I'd definitely buy this card for the money. If you already have the Ti4200 and want to upgrade, that's a tougher decision. The 9500PRO is faster, but not by a ton. See my results above.

heres the deal for seattle natives. there are still 2 9500 pros available in the puyallup best buy(253) 841-7008. get'em while they are their. Was just there about 1pm today. I had the 9700 pro at the federal best buy but didn't think it was worth $250 after running a few games with the latest 3.4 drivers. Had problems with CS and Colin Mcrae Rally 3, but might have been the drivers, (maybe you should try the 3.1 drivers which worked well with my radeon 7000). Now i Have 2 9500 pros, and seems to run b -e- a- t- utiful.....ly. have my audigy 2 platinums arriving soon. man it has been a good month. by the way 9500 pro over ti4200 128 or 64mb anyday(best bang for the buck). read a review on tom's hardware guide awhile ago and they agree ciao amigos

NOTE: Flashing your video card bios is dangerous if you are not familiar with dos based flashing. If a flash is not done properly you will break your card.

ALWAYS backup your original bios

EDIT: Here is the info to read to on how to flash your card
http://www.rage3d.com/board/showthread.php?s=4cc1847f74100dc8330a5b0250703e6c&threadid=33654157

Here are the files I used:
http://www.3dchipset.com/bios/ati/flash/index.php
I used: ATi Flash Utility

http://www.3dchipset.com/bios/ati/warp11/index.php
I used: ATi Radeon 9500 Pro Beta BIOS

I used a dos 6.22 boot disk
http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm

I backed up my bios first

after following the directions outlined I now have my card running 305/305 memory and core

my card has 3.3ns Infineon memory

FIDDLING WITH YOUR CARD VOIDS YOUR WARRANTY!

Good Luck should you decide to risk it

Got one at the Salem, NH store on Friday evening. They had one more left. The shelf tag still said $200+ and they made no effort to change it.

Guess my old Windows 98 is not going to cut it any longer! A cheap deal on a good card is going to cost me an OS upgrade. Oh, well, it was going to happen sooner or later anyway.:D

If you turn on AA and AF the difference becomes a ton in a hurry.

I gave up and ordered the ATI OEM 9700 non-pro for $199 from MWave. Maybe I can flash it to a pro.
