Well, don't keep us in suspense. How did you get them down to $125? :Q

Shrinkwrap was torn on both boxes. I used my powers of persuasion. :) Looked like both may have been opened.

hahah you are the devil's advocate!!! Nevertheless, sweet job for you :D

but i am really sitting on both sides of the fence, going to check cpu scaling charts to see if there's any benefit in a 1.3 ghz mach with a 8500 le
note: that if we are all nice and quiet about this, we can clean bb out before they raise the price back up

So how long did it take you to tear the shrinkwrap, and did you use a blade or just your fingers? :)

I just got an open box at West Covina, CA, for $130, but it seems to be broken. The VGA signal is totally messed up... I'm bringing it back to BB in a bit.

FYI - All BB's in the metro Philadelphia/Southern NJ area have no 9500 or 9700 Pros in stock. I called them all (just about):)

Oh, I forgot to note... there were TWO 9800 Pro 128MB shelf tags right next to each other. One is the normal $399 but the other one, printed on today (6/19) at 3AM says $299, but there's no descriptions, and the guy that I asked said that they didn't have the $299 card yet.

"wasn't there a rebate on this card at one time? Is that still in effect?"
according to bb's site, the rebate expired last month
but there may be others... or i could just be plain wrong :)

Just scored last 9500 Pro on the floor at the Fullerton, Ca store. There was a 9700 Pro left. You'll need to price check the products because the labels aren't updated.

OK, so the open box card that I had was really defective. I brought it back, was almost ready to get a refund (since according to the sale clerk earlier there was any new ones left) and then I saw two new boxes behind that "Let us maintain/upgrade/etc. it" window, on a shelf with lots of WinXP Home/Pro boxes. One is still left, go get it :) West Covina, CA.

Ok let me ask a quick question.... I bought this card to replace a 64 mb GeForce3 card. I'm having second thoughts now but is it a worthwhile upgrade or should I consider returning it ? The only game I play is Battlefield 1942. & I also have in transit a NEC/Mitsu 18.1 inch LCD with the DVI connection from the Dell 15% /15% deal last weekend . Will DVI make a big difference over vga?

That's a smokin' price for a 9800 PRO, isn't it? I wonder if that's their regular price? Is there more than one 9800 PRO?

Thats showing up at a few of the BB stores now. Its basically a downclocked 9800 Pro and so now its a 9800 non Pro.

Well.. My GF3 had lousy text. This card along with the DVI should make a nice difference. Plus, it's a better all around card. I would say that it would be a tougher decision against a GF4 Ti200, but not against upgrading from a GF3. It's your money though.

What CPU are you using?

DVI won't make that big of a difference.

I went to BB last night but they were out of 9500s and 9700s. They had the same price tags you mentioned (both said pro), but looking at the boxes above the tags, the $399 box said 9800Pro and the $299 box said 9800.

I just plugged my VisionTek GF3 Ti200 64 mb card back in for the heck of it. I'm using it with a Dell 1800FP 18" LCD on the VGA connector (card has no DVI).

Text is not that bad. It's pretty much on par with the GF4. I will have to agree that DVI doesn't make that much difference. Where it does make a difference from what I hear is on 3d playback on a LCD. I guess it keeps images from Ghosting or Streaking because it's faster. I really don't notice any difference though.

I also ran 3dBenchmark2001SE and here are my scores on a XP 1800+ and ECS KS75A (think that's the model). I always get the numbers turned around. I'm running at stock speeds btw. Nothing overclocked.

Visiontek GF3 Ti200 64 mb 6630
PNY GF4 Ti4200 64 mb 8x AGP 9300
ATI RADEON 9500PRO 10,100

The score difference is pretty significant between the GF3 Ti200 and the GF4 and 9500PRO. This is a very nice price for the 9500PRO, so it's tough to say. I'd probably upgrade for this price. If you had a GF4, that might be a tougher decision though.

Also.. I think it depends on the system that you have also. I'm sure that my modest system isn't complimenting these cards all that much. I'm sure that my scores would be higher if I had a different mobo and a faster processor.
