I was at Best Buy this evening and thought the same thing. 64MB for $300 Great deal, but upon closer inspection the SKU matched the 35MB card...

You guys are killing me! That is my old stomping grounds before I got married and stuck in this wasteland called Syracuse, NY! I grew up in Davis and lived in Sacto for 4 years (CSUS). *sigh* Was there in 99 visiting a friend who runs a body shop in Downtown Sac also. I'll have to look into the Radeon deal at BB here in central NY.

Can't believe this thread is still going, the deal would have been great, but never happened (well, maybe at just that one store, we never got a second verification, or even a first one that it rung up at this price at the counter).

Best Buy misprices its products quite often. So far I've got two cheap software package (an old Symantec Norton suite and a game collection) because Best Buy used the wrong price tags. Each time I told the checkout person about its mistake but Best Buy honored the wrong price anyway. Of course, soon afterward it quickly removed and re-priced the remaining stocks.

One piece of advice: DON'T buy any of Best Buy's extended warranty program. It's a scam. 20/20 or another similar tv news program did a report on Best Buy's extended warranty program just a couple of months ago. Best Buy is currently being sued by consumer groups over its extended warranty in some states.

A few months ago I called up Best Buy to see how much Quake 3 was. The guy on the phone said it was $15. I was like no dood, its way more. Hes like no its $15 bucks. So I got his name and told him I was coming that day. I got to the store and told me he made a mistake. But he signed some papers and I got the game for $15 bucks. So if somone miss quotes a price, get there name and then you get hooked up.... hehe

yep, i got a raincheck for 2 sticks of that 32mb@$9.99(the guys at the other store would only fill it out for $24.99--but this dude was cool. fortunately, his name isn't on it, so he won't get into trouble maybe), so now maybe i can chill in case they sell out quick

I thought I saw that the extended warrantee expose` was for circuit city...

I agree that bb's extended warrantee is expensive, but I got it on my Wega, don't wanna be screwed if it dies on me.

Those extended warranties can be good on some products but are a waste on most. One of the best instances of those warranties is for hard drives with an already long warranty. The extended warranty starts when the first one ends so if during the sixth year of ownership a Maxtor drive fails (used to be five years anyway), it will be replaced by whatever they have available for approximately the same price point. Think about that for a second. You paid $200 for a 1GB hard drive and now it is replaced by a 10-15GB drive. Not too shabby for $10. I'm referring to CompUSA's warranty which is what I am most familiar with.

It's usually a matter of luck, but it can work out in your favor. On really high priced items with questionable longevity, such as the Wega mentioned, it might be a good idea because you are already spending a boatload for the unit. It's insurance that may or may not pan out as needed. I generally don't get them and trust my chances. It also serves as an excuse to upgrade if it dies out of warranty (which is important when you're married!). :D

The report was on CBS. Here is the link:
CBS 48 Hours Expose on BestBuy's Extended Warranty Scam

Basically, BestBuy was using questionable tactics (i.e., bashing manufacturer's warranty, misrepresenting its warranty coverage) in selling its extended warranty programs. And then when customers went back to BestBuy with failed products and the warranty, it refused to honor its warranty and used the fine prints as an excuse.
