ATI r580+

I have seen reports saying to expect this card between June and August is this correct? I have a 7800gt right now and am playing oblivion alright at 1600x1200 with HDR and no AA. Alright means that I can some what stand the slideshow out side but inside it is fine. Clocks on the 7800gt are 530/1300 I just want something with enought horsepower to push newer games untill DX10 and I don't think this 7800gt is up to it. I really like ATI's IQ my brother has a x1900xtx and it is night and day between the two cards.

I hope that this card is up to competing with the 7950GX2 because from the benches across the net that looks like a nice performing card. I just want the IQ to go along with the speed. Yes, I know a case of wanting the cake and icecream too.

the r580+ will be coming out during the sept/oct time.And so will the gemini radeons.The gemini's will be the ones battling with the 7950 gx2.

First off, go here to learn about milking the best performance per image quality ratio you can out of Oblivion and see if that still leaves you hungry:

If you are planning on upgrading, I would at least wait until G80/R600 hit since the r580+ and gemini's will be out as well and we will know how they compare. Not to mention the prices for the r580+'s and gemini's will be lower due to the R600.

actually it isn't r590.Its r580+.And there'll be r570 gemini version too.
But either way i would suggest u get the g80 or the r580+.I'm inclined towards g80 cause it has dx10 support and will have support for HDR+AA and maybe HQ AF.
And they are both scheduled to be released at around the same time.Even if r580+ takes the performance crown,it won't be as attractive cause of the lack of dx10 support.

7950GX 2 may be the fastest of the lot but 512mb X1800XT crossfire may be fastest in its share of games, confirm please

Anyway I wouldnt get a card now knowing G80/R600 will come out later this year with dx10 support

Dang, I enjoyed that thread and its parody as well! Lightens things up in an otherwise slow time. I hope the r580+ or at least the r600 will use less power, just looking at 600watt power supplies, this is getting silly. Really what we need are games that challenge these cards, so I don't need a monitor that fills up my room to make use of them.

Apparently someone @ techenclave got it fixed for him... (not sure cuz I stopped reading before he got it fixed, but if he is recomending one, I assume he did)

G80 will come out in septemberish. According to some B3D members the samples are already being passed along and die shots will eventually be posted on the interent.

NV is going to release this to face the R580+. While R600 is scheduled for the end of this year most probably.

Hold on to your money beause i expect G80 to be a huge step from G70/G71 based cards. Finally, the everso elusive NV50/G80 will see the light of this world!

I think I might sit the first gen of DX10 cards out because of their high power requirments and heat. I don't have a slouch of a powersupply(OCZ powerstream 520) but I just don't want the heat and power draw. Plus there aren't any games that make me drool with DX10.

are these new cards gonna come with a die shrink (r580+, R570) cuz i'd rahter have a cool (but lower performing) 7900gt in my computer rather than a hot x1800xt. since i'll be buying in the sub 250 range i'd really like it if the R570 was cooler.

yes they are supposed to be a die shrink to 80nm but don't expect miracles from it. If you are that worried about heat then I would suggest the 7900gt, but keep in mind the ATI cards have DHES so your case should run cool even if the cards doesn't. The main problem with the stock cooler on the 1900 is it is loud not that it doesn't cool the card.

Agreed. And with that in mind, also hold back on your PSU upgrade, cause you might need a new one to fire up these babies.

ati's dx10 gpu production will be split between 65nm for high end and enthusiast mainstream and 80nm for budget mainstream and entry level cards.
So expect a lot of transistors on the top end r600.And a lot of heat too and power consumption regardless of the 65nm process.

I thought ATI had just barely switched to 80nm. Are we really going to see 65nm by the end of the year?

I wonder why they would put 65nm on the low end that doesn't have heat issues and 80nm on the high end? It would make better sense to use 65nm for everything if they can: it's cheaper, better energy, and can clock higher. Unless they just can't get the high end chips to yield well with the low manufacture process but as I understand it low manufacture process results with better yields so I have no clue why ATI would go that route.
