Eh? Looks photoshopped...

Notice the ATI Rage Theatre? Now, I don't own a Radeon card of any kind, but isn't that VIVO stuff? Didn't they say that there would be a daughtercard for VIVO stuff? Also, where is the shadow for the power connector for the heatsink that appears larger? Look at the shadow of the "smaller" one - it gives the impression that there should be one for the "larger" one. Not to mention some uncanny similarities in the shadows on the two heatsinks. Also, that's one hell of a white background! :Q Except...for the top, left corner of the green PCB where there is some gray (no idea if that means anything... :D). Also, when zoomed in, the ATi logo looks super imposed over some components.

I know I'm being extremely (excessively?) nit-picky, but it just does NOT look like a real card.

Of course, it would be nice if it came out at a moderate price, but I don't think it's real. Not to mention why did the dude post it already if no one else had? Unless he didn't have permission to, in which case I'm sure ATi would have contacted him by now. And why in the forum and not on the main page?

Something very fishy.

Looks photoshopped to me, look closely at the right side of both heatsinks, notice the difference? then look at the fan positions and shadows, exact same. notice the screws? they look very much the same. Plus, I doubt ATI would use TSOP memory on a card like this.

Two more additions, ATI always puts the product ID on the edge of the PCB, but I don't see it anywhere. ATI using Etron Tech memory? Never seen an ATI card with it.

This is fake. All new radeons use bga memory. I cannot beleive that ati would suddenly go back regular ram chips.

They actually posted this article on their front page and if you click on it from there you can read it without registering. There's a discussion going on there are they actually think it's real. NF64 suggested that it might be photochopped but they're like "ATI did it." I've never heard of tweak town but I have no respect for it now. RUMOR MILL!

NFS4, I refuse to register to taht place. Could you please post a link to this forum there. I just love the upside down rage theatre chip...nice touch. Oh, those hsfs are from the original radeon BTW.

Picture is so obviously faked. Foreground appears to be from a 7500. The 2 GPU fans are identical (Screw positions, highlights....) The foreground fan is transparent where the power leads exit it. The rage theater chip's lower left corner was pasted over a component on the 7500 so that only half of it exists. No shadow for the left fans power cable. The right fan has blend problems all around it. Geez I could pick this apart forever.

Budman read what I wrote before you repond. I asked NFS4 to post a link to THIS FORUM in THEIR FORUM so that they can see what we have to say about it. I said nothing about a picture.

I highly doubt ati is releasing a 8500maxx as r300 silicon was running at Computex.

what else was there?
Geforce4, Parhelia, p10 ? this chip has two Radeon chips which doubles the performance, alot faster than anything else he could have gotten his hands on.

but this seems fake anyways :p

About Doom3, I highly doubt they ran it on the r300, much more likely it was the r250 and according to everything I'v heard its quite a bit faster than the old Radeon so it would outbeat the current fastest one, the geforce4

I am not a tech person but i thought it was not possible to have 100% effecient hidden surface removal? In the post there they say that Hyper Z III is 100% effective!

i thought deferred renderers did that. and the radeon is so obviously not a true deferred renderer. more fakeness. would be interesting, but what would be the point? rv250 is about out, r300 is just around the corner...

A decent fake, but it's obviously a fake.
Others have picked out about a dozen problems with it already.

Identical HSF's, screws all identical, HSF's from the original memory, identical shadows on the HSF's, some capacitors and wires missing shadows, older TSOP memory seems suspect, no ATi product ID on the card, rage theater chip's lower left corner is partially pasted over a component on the R7500 so that only half of it exists. ATi logos are at the wrong angle, the capacitors have PhotoShops 'feathering' effecy applied, the forground is from the R7500/background from the R8500 with some elements of the classic 64MB VIVO pasted in, components all across the board are skewed in an incorrect size given the distance from the camera. The RAM used is virtually a direct cut and paste from that on the R8500 press release pictures.

Mr. TweakTown is now saying ATi sent this to lots of other sites too, and he is merely the first to post it.
Seems suspicious that all these other sites still havent posted it.
Also seems awfully unlikely that Tom's Hardware/AnandTech havent heard anything of this given they are vastly more popular then TweakTown.

I find it amusing that Mr. TweakTown is now admitting the image is probably fake... yet he still claims it's coming from ATi.
Why would ATi create an image so obviously faked from a mis-match of older hardware?
And even were they to do, surely they can afford better artists?

Mr. TweakTown listed a number of sites that supposedly got this email from ATi.
Certain of those sites listed whom I won't mention have denied that fact.
It seems to me he may just be picking sites at random to claim they recieved the email as well.

I won't say it's an ourtight fake... though the image definitely is, but is seems damn suspicious to me.

Here you go.
Thanks Budman.

Yes, that is one of the worst cases of photoshopping I've seen to date (I've seen much worst, but this one will be up there with the rest). That thing actually looks like a Voodoo5, remember those!? ;)

I'll be waiting for the official ATI announcement.

7757524 yep i saw that about a week ago. Its very fake. I wish we could get that kind of scores but it will be a long while till we do. Maybe 20000 sooner or later. Hope the N30 or R300 can give us 20000 but i am not counting on it. I wouldn't mind if both did then prices would go down even more i am sure!

If you zoom in on the left wires from the fan you can see through them. It is pretty funny.

Much more realistic looking r300 and rv250 pictures found here.

I particularly like the floppy power connector on the r300. I have been wondering if they would provide a supplemental source of power rather than just the AGP slot.

Hello guys,

As most of you already said, this is fake. It's simply a hoax. TeakTown said that the email came from ATi directly, and that is very untrue. It came from a guy who claims to be an ATi employee. He said that he got fired but was able to steel some documents about upcomming products from ATi. It was a long email, with a PR, Info, a picture and some other stuff.

I got the original email, the one from this "employee". I wasn't going to post this until it was verified. Within one day ATi replied to us and said, and I quote, "We have no current intentions of making this or similar boards. "

Hope this clears the confusion. There are no plans for such product, and the way I see it, ATi is going full force on the R300.

Thanks for your time.
