Er, I don't think they said nVidia cards are "worthless", they just said they can't run AA on HL2. Won't stop me from playing HL2 if I still have the 5800 when it comes out, I'll just play with AF only?

at very high res indeed! gogogo
so far i only found 3dMARK games and splinter cell in need of a serious AA usage.
only cure is to play at my monitor's max res, and it helps alot!

Looks like I need to get you a bigger shovel. Going to take a long time to shovel that shite for someone to believe it.

Why does any of this garbage about different graphics cards running HL2 and Doom3 matter? Realistically none of today's best hardware will be able to run both games at high res with FSAA and/or anisto. with good frame rates. I bet you will need a Prescott/A64, NV45/R450 to run it with a half way decscent frame rates. So I would stop worrying because your current hardware will probably not be able to handle it.

Why do you need to put him down Regs? So you have a 9800np, spending $300 measly bucks means you have the right to insult other members? Or does having a 9800np just make you want to belittle people who have slower cards than you?
If I order a 256MB R9800, should I put you down for cheaping out on the 128mb np? Would you like that?

I don't understand you fanATIcs.

Always looking for the benchmark that "proves" you have the "best" card, always looking for driver cheats to point at, always pointing out "huge" differences in IQ.

I went from a 9700pro to a 5800, the only place I can tell the difference is I could run higher AA/AF settings on the 9700Pro. I'm just as happy playing my games at the lower settings, so I haven't bought a 5900 or 9800 yet. (will probably wait till something better than either comes out, neither is a big enough difference to care)

If Stardust is happy with his 5600, why not let him be happy?

Personally, I couldn't be "happy" squinting at a tiny little 15" lcd that escaped from a laptop, but you don't see me saying "Hahaha Regs! WHATEVER settings I run at look a 100X better on my 20" viewable and 18" viewable CRTS!"

That's right we are benevolent epicureans on this board 😉

IT's bad form to debase someones experience on a public forum just because of their choice of card.

It's not only here but most other forums as well.
There is a core group of people who mainly used to post on Rage3D and have now gone and registered at every other HW forum to push the ATI line. Some are just trolling, others are ATI employees "in disguise" so to speak, hopeing to throw enough FUD against the wall until some of it sticks.
Some are semi-up front about thier true motives but others just hope to influence people into buying nothing but ATI products.
What they fail to realize is that competition is good, the high-end cards are already outrageously expensive, I can only imagine what the prices would be if one or the other company went under.

It's really quite the drama, unfortunately those of us who just want info have to wade through this stuff.
What I still can't figure out is why? ATI obviously has a good product hardware wise-why are these people so worried that someone will prefer an NV offering that they have to spend countless hours pushing thier prefered brand instead of just using the card and being happy with thier choice?

Rollo, I'm really an un-biased member. This thread was meant to directly attack ATI owners so I responded. These little attacks on Nvidia owners and ATI owners alike are getting redundant and childish.

So if you want to say something, go take a trip over to the "Nvidia cards will have a bug in half-life 2 !!! " thread.

He's allowed to insult other members when they insult the goers of this forum by posting something that is in no way true just to inflame the board and just to be a troll.

I looked at the thread title and immediatly went to look at his system rig profile. Just as I suspected, an nVidia board. A 5900 even. Yes, the 5900 owner is very bitter which in turn makes me very happy.

Huzzah for Ati! Hip hip Huzzah! Hip hip Huzzah! Hip hip Huzzah!

This is the most sensible reply in this thread so far, and some may notice that this is what I have been trying to say in as many HL2/D3 threads that I can, where people are expecting full res and FSAA/AF with their current hardware

Confused

All I can sugest is that we all wait till these games are released, and Ati, nVidia and others have a chance to optomise a driver for it. The game developers can probably code tweak it to get it to work on anything, though of corse it won't be as pretty.

And to the origional thread starter, go somewhere else please to start a flame war. I kinda like it here because it is a little quieter.

AdamK47:

This is the kind of thing that makes no sense to me: "Haha, I'm happy you're dissatisfied"??

You must be a very small person indeed to not only take pleasure in someone else's sadness, but to actually think a person's choice of video card could affect their mood?!
Good lord.
Even the expensive ones are cheap enough that anyone who works in this country should be able to buy a new one every year. Beyond that, why would anyone be bitter about having a 5900? Because the ATI is faster at some benches?

I reiterate, a very small person indeed would be troubled by this- "Oh no! The 9800 has a litlle better IQ at it's top setting!"
rolleye.gif

The only video card owners who have reason to be bitter these days are guys like me that bought nV30s, only to have nVidia devalue them totally. (and it's still not enough money to get very worked up about)

I just thought of something! GASP!
I'VE BEEN PLAYING MY UT2003 AT 2X AA/4X AF BECAUSE THE 5800 ISN'T AS FAST AT THIS AS MY 9700 PRO WAS!!!!! AAaiiiiiieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
Oh cruel fate! How can a good guy like me have been brought so LOW?!?!? Can I look my son and wife in the eye, knowing that I run these settings? No. My coworkers and neighbors are talking too. Oh they don't come right out and say it, but I hear them snickering as I walk by, and catch pieces of their conversations like "2X", "5800", and "ordered grid, hahaha".

LOL

Apart from the obvious, ie, you wanting to start a flame war, your information is flawed.
We already know that ATI cards can do AF and FSAA in Doom3. We`ve seen benchmarks of it on AnandTech.

We also saw benchmarks of the 5900 "doing" AA+AF in Splinter Cell and Quake 3. 😉 IMO, the real proof ATi can do AA in Doom 3 is both because Id used 2xAA in their E3 demo on a 9700 Pro way back when and two other sites corroborated the latest Doom 3 benches.

MODS: Delete this freaking thread. It is not based on any kind of information, nor does it make any benificial contribution to the world in any way.

All it is, is a troll post designed to do nothing but try and make a completely bogus point that makes no sense and the whole thread is worthless.

I'll second that. 🙂
