Ati mobility 9600 128Mb vs 9700 64Mb

I am buying a laptop this weekend. I can afford either an Ati mobility 9700 with 64 Mb of VRAM (my preffered choice) or an Ati mobility 9600 with 128 Mb. The 9700 with 128Mb are just too expenssive and I cant really justify spending much more just for 64 Mb of VRAM.

Which is better at Doom 3, Half Life 2, Far Cry, etc.? I am not supper picky, I like to play at medium setting 800/600 or 1024 if possible

I can't find any benchmarks comparing these two! I'm thinking of getting the Acer 4001 LCi.

Thanks

i figure the 128mb 9600 would be better cuz it could hold more textures with out going to main system memory (ie higher possible resolutions). plus you could OC it to 9700 speeds cuz the 9700 is just an OCed 9600

I'm shopping for the same thing, and xcrunner51 and Solema's comments where very helpful.

What laptop are you looking at with the 9600 128mb? I've found it on a dell, and I think a compal but not much other places?

What's your budget?

Ayaaaaa! I really wanted the Acer 4001. The thing is it is so expenssive o get just 64MB more of video memory. I live in Taiwan so we only have a few models, not as much variety as they have in US (for example we have no 4501, or th WLMi models at all). Asus has some models like the L5000 but that may cost a lot more. And the Acer 2023 also costs a lot more (about 400$ US more) for just widescreen and 64Mb more.

My budget is about 1400$ US. But the problem is that all the models that have 128Mb seem to jack up the price 300-400$. So I don't know if its worth it.

How much more FPS would I get in Doom 3 Medium quality, 1024 res if I have a 128Mb instead of 64MB??? If its just a few like 5 or 10, then that is hardly worth 300$.
