ATI + Intel VS Nvidia + AMD

Is it just me or does it seem like the 9700 pro makes the GF FX look weak on the Intel platform.

If you check out Kyle's and Tom's reviews on the AMD/Nforce2 platform, the GF FX looks much more competetive with th 9700 pro.

I hope someone does more investigation into this.

I wonder if there's any celebrations going on at ATI headquarters. The pre/re views are out and the 9700 pro looks like it's holding it's own

Congrats to the people who bought their 9700 pro's 6 months ago. That's a long time to have supreme video card bragging rights. Makes me think of my Diamond Monster 3D

i don't know too terribly much about video cards, but if ATI is getting the same scores roughly as the FX but at a significantly lower clock speed, is it the more bandwidth available that is responsible or is it similar to the AMDvsIntel IPC discussion?

I think it's a combination of those two, plus the fact that these are DX 9 cards and we're using DX 8 software to bench them.

Bottom line here is, I don't think anyone in their right mind truley expected the GF FX to wipe the floor with the Rad 9700 pro.

The driver theam at Nvidia is renowned for pulling 20% performance increases out of their hats, but by the time they do that they'll be dealing with the R350.

the difference lies in the way the two people ran their benchmarks. you'll notice that anand used ati's "performance" AF method because he found it looked the same as nvidia's "quality" AF. kyle ran both on their quality setting.

intel/amd may have had a little bit to do with it, but not much imo.

I always thought nVidia+Intel opposing to the possible problems of ATI+AMD.

From the looks of it in Kyle's review at HardOCP, the GF FX does indeed do better on the AMD platform then the Intel one.

Not too sure about nforce2/Ati setups........

I have/had a problem setting up a nForce2 mobo (Abit NF7-S) and an ATi card (Radeon 8500). I tried a half dozen different driver sets for the Ati card to no avail; couldn't get the AGP right. I know it's not the 9700pro, but I've seen alot of forums littered w/ problems about getting the Ati card and the nForce2 set up correctly; I've been searching for weeks for a solution to my problem.

I "solved" my problem by getting a GF4 Ti 4400 and installing it. No problems at all with installation/benchmarking. The Radeon is now replacing my GF2 in the other rig.

I'm sure that the motherboard/videocard manufacturers will get it ironed out, but the nForce2 may be more stabile with a Nvidia gpu.

IMO at least.

It kinda makes sense in a microsoftiian kinda way. Nvidia running better with Nvidia.

But can you imagine the noise comming out of a rig with a volcano 7+ at full speed with 2 case fans and a GFFX.

I wonder how long before water cooling is standard?

I don't think watercooling will be standard, It's too risky.
